I remember people who had been in Koresh's group and Heaven's Gate and Jim Jones' group were interviewed. Obviously, these had stopped being part of the core group before they all died.
I found it interesting that some had joined to stay close to family members but could not be hardcore enough to take the final step. Some were still "true believers" and felt like they had failed personally and had been left behind.
Steve Hassan is an example of what happens to some survivors, in his case the Moonies. He has set up a successful organization that helps people learn how to get people out and how survivors and recover.
