Without getting into the details (yet), I have heard some interesting information (at least to me) about a lawyer from Canadian Bethel named Glen Howe.

Does anybody know anything about him?

He's an old old dude. If not already in his 80's then definitely pushing in that direction.

He's renowned in JW circles for having successfully argued JW related cases that went before the Supreme Court of Canada starting back in the 40s/50s/60s. If you've heard anything about the Roncarelli case, that was his case. His legal wranglings were the foundation for the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, particularly with respect to freedom of worship and freedom of conscience.

He received an Order of Canada award in 2001.

Glen Howe's family brought my grandparents in the "truth". My parents know him well. What did you hear about him?

An interesting read from the Minutes of Proceedings when Glen How was invited to address the House of Commons on October 17, 1995:

The transcript may still be available on the Reexamine website. Basically he waved a gold Making Your Family Life Happy book at the end of his allowed time and stated that "it's the kind of thing that the government should put out". If you take a look at the transcript, he is addressing the rights of JW grandparents to have access to non-JW grandchildren and the rights of JW parents to deny access to their children by ex-JW grandparents. He doesn't say it quite that way, but he argued against blanket legislation and promoted a case-by-case consideration. Which is reasonable under normal circumstances, however in a case involving JWs and ex-JWs we all know the basis for excluding people from the family circle would be congregational decree to not associate with the individual being excluded. During the time he had to address the House, he brought up a few JW-related cases and a complaint regarding a Judge as being biased against JWs.

The entire transcript is also available on the House of Commons website.

That he was supposedly helping my ex-wife and her mother throughout the court process, during our separation. He never actually appeared in court or wrote any affidavits, etc., but apparently he was helping from behind the scenes. My ex-wife is technically a JW, although she doesn't follow their teachings whatsoever and hasn't attended a meeting in years. My ex-MIL is a JW pioneer however, and has attempted to prevent my relationship with my children in many, many ways. Scully, thanks for the info. I am going to read the link provided.

He is the top-dog for the Canadian Branch Office's Legal Department. His firm, W. Glen How & Associates, is the in-house counsel for WTS Canada.

I attended court with the Vicki trail Glen was there. He shook hands with me & the man I was with NOT an ex...He had not long received the .Order of Canada....I told him that all he had to do this day was speak the truth....( he was coaching the WT lawyer I forget his name... ) Glen answered me "Yes I am not disfellowshipped YET!!!! " Well that surprised me -so I gave him my card.... He thanked me & put it in his pocket... Imagine what the reporter said the NEXT DAY.... When Glen walked into court with a bevy of JWS & threw my card in my face.... "Oh "said the reporter" That is LOVE????"
He is a very rude man....But then since he has won so many cases for the Watchtower I guess it went to his head...My Friend Rossilie,,,, Wanted a divorce to marry Harold.Boa...but they couldnt get one as her hubby had not commited adultery.. But Ole Glen got it done in a couple of weeks ( just a few lies to tell Rosilie said...) I was shocked but she said Glen thought Jehovah approved it.
