    The Invisible Enemy!

What are the similarities between Osama Bin Laden and God? The answer is really easy: They both hide!

I guess nobody is surprised by the fact that religion is playing a major role when the world experience crisis. To the contrary, everyone should be highly surprised if religion did not play a key role. What is even more surprising is the fact so few people seems to be interested and willing to discuss what a motivating force religion really is, and how religion is used time and time again to bring human evil to new heights.

Religion really is The Hidden Factor. And the clue seems to be just that – to be hidden. In all times the success of The Hidden Factor has been the fact that this factor is hidden, untouchable.

The god of the Hebrews, who later became the god of the Christians and the Muslims, did understand this perfectly well a long time ago. He did understand where the key to success was hidden, and he used it for all it was worth. Early on in history he converted from polytheism to monotheism. God sucked every small god into himself, and he became one; he became THE god. Monotheism, contrary to the pluralistic views and beliefs of god, is an extremely intolerant way of ruling, and this form was tailor-made for god’s purpose. He decided to be the supreme ruler of the world. This new way of handling matters inspired to abuse of power, and it inspired to extreme worship, it proved to be just the thing for extremists, no matter what religion they subscribe to.

In the days of Abram the Hebrew god was experimenting quite a lot, if we are to believe the Bible. He showed himself for humans, in awe-inspiring Epiphanies, every now and then. God was on his way to make an ass of himself, he was on the route to blow his cover; risking making himself too visible for the humans. And, as a result of his visibility, god was in danger of attack. His irreproachable life was at risk, and as The Hidden Motivator he had to hide.

God needed to keep the distance between him and the humans exactly big enough to maintain the fear and admiration. On the other hand, if the distance became too big, he would soon face the danger of losing influence. The only real knowledge required by The Hidden Motivator is to be a great artist of balance.

This game was, it seems, an invention of god. But facts are, Osama Bin Laden knows this game just as well as god does. He is simply following god’s principle of hiding himself to power. This is the strategy of a coward, and that’s another similarity between god and Osama Bin Laden. Cowardice.

In the modern world, globalization is daily life. Information is flowing fast, and god follows in the removal load, just as the Norwegian “nisse” in the fairytale. And even though it’s not at all politically correct, this fact highlights a problem that should be discussed seriously. It’s not at all about racism, but about how to handle the so called “religion” in daily life and in daily politics.

What in my view should be done, is to cut off religious people from every position where power is a part. That is probably the most effective way to avoid chronic abuse of power. A “marriage” between state and church is not a good marriage, and it should actually be forbidden by law. No religious parties should ever be allowed to have a position with power in any state.

Freedom of religion? I can hear the screaming already, from the “well-pissers” who doesn’t know the difference between their own ass and their brain. It doesn’t matter if anyone believe in a god or not, if they believe in a supreme being or not. Fact is there is absolutely impossible to exclude god as a motivating power in the events of September 11th.

But they were not American, they were Muslims. Yeah, sure. But what do President Bush always say? GOD BLESS AMERICA! It’s exactly the same! By doing so he tries to give some legitimacy to the idea of something above the national sphere, and in the same time he uses god to justify the nationalism. Something that can not be attacked; the total, undisputed truth.

Exactly the same is done by the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden and their friends all over the world. Mullahs, Priests, Presidents and Generals. They all do exactly the same thing, threatening with Holy War! God is with us, not the others. It’s a duty to die for your country, your religion, your supreme leader – and ultimately – for GOD. The Hidden Motivator, hiding behind in the shadows, being the coward he is. The connections between religion and destructive nationalism has always been clear, always been visible for the ones who wanted to watch. Negative elements attracts each other.

Does anyone really believe the September 11th episode would ever happen if god was not in the picture? Aggressors all over the world strengthen themselves with hidden power. God is helping them, no matter what side they are fighting on. God, who is always broke, who always needs money, will surely support the most aggressive regime ever invented.

Human beings ar as much Homo Religiosus as Homo Sapiens, and superstition will probably exist for ever. Humans need consolation, psychological crutches. They don’t dare standing on their own feet, making their own decisions. And, when they have decided they “need god”, they will do what he demands of them. It doesn’t matter if it is to fly into the World Trade Center, or to die on a dusty flat in Afghanistan. As long as religion and power are allowed to co-exist in a state, to have real power, this power will be abused.

Anyone who knows the tiniest bit of history will see what I’m talking about. In Ireland Protestants are throwing bombs at small children being Catholics. All because god wants them to do so, and their religious leaders OK it. They have kept on like this for ages. Christians started their crusades to kill Muslims, because god told them to kill the ungodly, and the ungodly are told by god to kill the Christians because of their false teachings.

No matter where you look, The Hidden Motivator is always behind, hiding in the shadows, watching with his evil eyes, always ready to cause havoc and disaster.

I will suggest we set up a court and charge god of cruelty and high treason. A group of Jews did that in a KZ camp during the war, and god was convicted.

It’s about time we try once more!

    Kent,

Truely eloquent and moving words you wrote. I have to stop and think before I write my next words.

Since I don't believe that God has any influence on human events, I have conclude that mankind uses the concept of God for their own purposes. In Genesis it says that we were created in God's image. I believe quite the contrary. We created God in our image. In the Old Testement, God was jealous and vengeful, just like the tribal people who believed in him and created their image of him. Over time, God became more loving, because societies had to become more loving to survive with other societies.

When it comes to war, it always comes down to economics, never religion. However, if you can use God and religion to further your cause, then you have a better chance of taking over someone elses land, gold, oil, whatever it is. If you can convince your soldiers that they will have a wonderful life after death in some kind of paradise, they will fight to the death. If you can convince the soldier that the enemy is really not a human, but a demon inspired by Satan, they will fight to the death, knowing that they have crippled Satan and sent themselves to God's better place. As I said, for the Malcavellian leaders it is all about economics and resources, but the ideology of religion makes it all possible.

    Beautifully stated!
    And right on the money.
Hatred is one aspect of the hidden 'god' motivator. Absolutist religious doctrine promotes hatred which helps to unify and allow religion to manipulate people to its own economic ends. Power, control and domination. Every movement needs an enemy,a devil to hate. A powerful tool! And we see how this hate is fostered and manipulated by religions all thru history. Why it's past is so checkered and bloody.
And religion also fosters a denial of the self and reality. Like larc stated,if you are convinced the 'next life' is better than the one you have, you can be persuaded to perform just about any atrocity or destructive act in this life. Thanks for the food for thought! hugs/luv.T

There are such good points that I'll remember from this. From Larc that it's the Machevellian leaders who foment the wars for economic reasons and their tool is religion. Kent I liked your title of humans being "homo religiousio."

Didn't the WTS love quoting Hitler as saying he couldn't fight his war without religious people?

And how far would Moses have gotten with his genocidal wars without religion? Even when they lost, it was because god said they did wrong.

Joseph Campbell (The Power of Myth, etc.) said that prior to the Hebrews' god, the peoples had goddesses and were much more peaceable farming communities. As farmers, they stayed in one area. The herders (Hebrews) were on the move and constantly butting heads with others. The Hebrews got rid of all the goddesses (too peaceful) and got a single deity that was bent on WAR.

As Larc said, "in the beginning, man created god. . . "
