Conversational Terrorism, Mind Control and JWs

I received an email today containing a link to a document that I think is important for us to have access to here on JWD.

The document is from a website called MindControl101 and it is entitled: Conversational Terrorism.

As I was reading through the document, it occurred to me just how many of these techniques are employed by the WTS in its literature and lectures. The tactics are thought stopping techniques and conversation stoppers. They are basically ways to "cheat" in the course of conversation or in leading a potential recruit into a mind control situation.

For example, when the WTS makes statements such as "true christians believe..." or "true christians do... (or do not)" it is employing a subtle variant of ad hominem attack, by implying that if the reader does anything other than what is done by so-called "true christians" then they are not "true christians". It subtly leads the reader to do things that they might otherwise not do, or go against their conscience. We see this kind of thing employed frequently when family members shun us, because it goes against natural familial affections, and requires them to do something that "true christians" allegedly all doing.

They use the term 'thinking Christians', as if there are no--thinking ones, as another example. Even the term 'the truth'. Who dosen't want the 'truth'?

They've had a lot of time to study these phrases and manipulative words, and are quite versed in using them.

They always say "the evidence shows" or the "the facts prove" without telling you what the evidence or facts are.

People just accept that such "evidence" or "facts" are true and exist.
