My 'ex' is in town visiting our 17 yo daughter for Thanksgiving. To kill some time this afternoon, they decided to watch TV. He was channel surfing, saw a sex scene (no nudity) and stops to watch it. I was walking through the living room at this point, and asked him why he would watch that in front of his daughter. He didn't see anything wrong with it. I asked my daughter if it bothered her and she said she closes her eyes. (I told him it's not gonna happen in my house again, but I know he takes her to movies, there's no telling what she's seen, but that's out of my control. )
This really bothered me. Am I being overly sensitive or overprotective? I don't think there's anything wrong if she and I were watching the same scenes. (I guess I'm guilty of a double standard.)
Are you uncomfortable watching racy shows with your kids?
Does this make you uncomfortable ?

Sounds like you have a double standard going, yes.
If your daughter "closes her eyes" at 17 years of age, I fear somewhere along the line, something has telegraphed a very unhealthy message about sexuality to her.
My 14 y/o and I watch just about any R rated movie either of us wants to see together, and somehow we survive the minor (and sometimes not-so-minor, at least on my part) embarrassment. I think that already, at 14, w/o any personal experience, she has a more healthy sexuality than any Jehovah's Witness of any age.

I remember watching such a scene with my mother. The worse part would be her commets. she had a knack for making those situations very funny.

Theres no way id watch a sex scene with my 19 year old son..............when they were little we all used to shout shut your eyes and then laugh.
If anything too explicit comes on the telly we flick over straight away.............my son will groan but im sure hed be more embarrist than me if we left it on. I think its about respect.............if she closes her eyes, then her father should respect how she feels ............and switch over.

Shell: Did he ever get over "that" problem he had last night??
He denied it and told me I had a dirty mind.
