JWs' Message to the World

    Hi Gang-

The talk about what the JWs did or did not do to help people in the disaster is very interesting. Frankly, I would hope in many ways that they would not help since their mode of operation is to use tragedies like that to recruit people into their group.

My own mother was recruited into the JWs after her mother passed away. This tragic event in my mother's life was used to get her into a destructive cult. If the Mormons had called on her during that time in her life, I probably would be speaking on an ex-Mormon bulletin board right now.

In any case, when people go through something like this, it is a time of extreme emotional turmoil to say the least and a sales pitch from a cult like the JWs, the Mormons, the Moonies, or any of them can be very attractive to people who have suffered such extreme loss.

I have been speaking to some JWs who have had doubts over the last few months. This disaster coupled with the fear that the JW mindset encourages them to have due to every disaster that happens in the world has many of them thinking about returning to the JWs wholeheartedly. It is also my understanding that the Watchtower Organization is going to use this disaster as an opportunity to convert others to their group.

In fact, it seems as though a letter from the Governing Body was sent to the different congregations in the USA encouraging JWs to use this disaster as a way to engage people in conversation and to present the public with their paradise earth theology. In addition it seems that the JWs were told not to dwell with people on their other more controversial teachings such as the fact that they believe that most individuals on the earth (all non-JWs) will be destroyed by God at Armageddon. Evidently, this letter was read to some congregations in the USA this week. (Can anyone here confirm this?)

So, it seems that the Watchtower Organization finally has a tragic event that they can use to help them in combatting their decline in the Western world. This really saddens me as it will revictimize many of the individuals who have already been victimized by these terrorist acts.

I feel the same way you do on this, Jeff....very saddened by the fact that the WTBTS will milk this tragedy for all it's worth.

Several who post on other ex-JW boards have expressed these exact sentiments, stating that "prophecy is being fulfilled" and "it looks as if the JWs are right".

People of all faiths are flocking back to churches because of this incident, and will probably continue to do so. The difference, however, is that most going to church at this time are seeking comfort and support to help them through this trauma.

Those who run back to the JWs, however, will find themselves once again caught up in the frenzy to convert others. They will be heaped with guilt and even more intense fear. After all, if Armageddon is, in fact, THIS close, are they SURE that they're doing enough so that they have a chance to make it?

It's frightening to contemplate.....and very sad.

One of my dub friends called this morning to tell me they were told at Book study last night, to get everyone to the meeting on Thursday, for a special letter from New York. I'll bet that's the one.

I called my cousin, a jailhouse convert if ever there was one, and what was she doing?

    "Reading the Revelation Book."

I asked her why, and all she could say is "This is going to be some heavy shit!"

    Very Sad.
