For Jazz fans, here are some video clips for your entertainment. They were all recorded in 607BCE and published by UN Records :

Wes Montgomery - Recorded in Belgium in 1965. Montgomery was one of the few guitarists ( Jim Mullen being another ) who mastered the art of thumb picking in Jazz. This is where his 'soft' sound originates, I believe this is the only available footage of the man playing live. Harold Mabern on piano I think.

    Montgomery

Robert Conti - Imho one of the best of the 'nearly men' of jazz guitar. Here he plays jazz as a twenty-one year old - recorded in 1969. I caught him in a New York club in the 80's where he received seven standing ovations from a mob of music hardened New Yorker's.

    Conti

    Plays blues - 2001

Quick jam session. This clip also proves that it is possible to play drums while you sleep.

Michel Petrucciani - An amazing pianist who surmounted great personal pain to create beauty.

    Petrucciani

The Clash - London Calling - Not jazz I know, but what can one say. Some of the worst played music on the planet, but an unbeatable level of excitement. So much more to give than most music one hears today which all seem to be titled, 'Send In The Clones'.

    Clash

George Bush - sorry couldn't resist. This one is for Shining One.

Just reading a superb book about the Clash. One of the great British bands. True British Grit!

By the way, good on ya for name dropping Richard Thompson on the Guitarists thread. One of my top 3 heroes.

I've also met him and played on the same stage.

Not alot of people know that.

    Peace

I love Michelo Petrucciani's comment about dieing......

    He is scared of death

    I believe in God and I don't

I believe in the force because there is alot of things I can't really explain.

If you go deeper in my thought I would be very decieved if it(death) was nothing

I would say Shit I thought it was something. I want to go back, I want to be back on Earth

Sometimes I think about that in those terms.

He talks about music in colors

What a delightful man......funny.......talented.........and what a little bitty tv he has.

    Lowden,

By the way, good on ya for name dropping Richard Thompson on the Guitarists thread. One of my top 3 heroes. I've also met him and played on the same stage.

I am impressed, and wondering if I know you? Richard is one of my occasional clients this end of the world, as is Clive Gregson who plays with Richard on occasion, and is one very nifty guitarist himself. Clive moved to Nashville a couple of years ago, but still plays the circuit regularly in the UK.

Top Jimmy and his Rythm Pigs - They were the best! Saw them in Nairobi in '74. Nobody could get the sounds out of an accordion like Nappy. That plane crash robbed us of some great music!

Thomo is one of your occasional clients???

    Give me your job NOW!!

No mate, i doubt you know me but i will say this......(beware, this may sound like i'm dillusional) i'm utterly convinced that he borrowed my song as the major inspiration behind his song Cooksferry Queen from his 1999 album Mock Tudor.

Although...he's inspired soooo much of my playing style and songwriting. So it's 'swings and roundabouts' i suppose. Bloody magpie!

I thought he lived in LA, didn't Nancy Covey have connections at McCabes Guitar Shop? So he's moved huh? Nashville? A country album beckons methinks.

Listen HS, i could talk about this guy for ages so i'd better go now. Hell, even my forum name comes from the make of acoustic he uses. I eventually bought one and now i worship her. What a sound!!

    Peace

    Hi Lowden,

Yes, he does, I was talking of Clive Gregson who moved to Nashville a couple of years ago, but is still heavily present in the club scene in the UK. Do you know Clive's work. Definately worth paddling in.

Clive Gregson?? Yeah, of course i know him

    Gregson and Collister!!

Apart from the stuff they did with Thompson they did their own albums, together and solo.

They were also behind Stephen Fearing, that Canadian who made a brief foray into Britain 10 yrs or so ago. They covered one of his songs called ' The Most Beguiling Eyes'.....gorgeous!

What do you do for a job that takes you into the vicinity of these guys? Luthier? Plumber?

PM if you wanna come away from the thread.

    Peace

    Lowden
