Does anyone have any new or recent news if there have been any more or going to be any more lay-offs?

Last I heard from the inside was that there were upwards of a thousand sent home already from the US branch (Brooklyn, Wallkill, Patterson). Also confirmed were the fact that many of these are middle-aged couples.

They are being taken care of at Bethel. The middle-aged are being let go so that hopefully their liablity of taking care of aged ones will ease up as the older ones die off.

Well, I wouldn't worry about them, as they are being taken care of well there. If that's one thing Bethel does nicely, it's taking care of elderly folks.

Perhaps the WTBTS should branch in to running care homes for the elderly then if they do it that well. I understand the Jah Jireh homes in the UK take only JWs and the elderly are well cared for. With an ageing population, the world's their oyster!
