  I have read quite a few times that the WTS collects Disaster Relief from the governmental agencies that deal with relief. The WTS will help only JWs with the funds they get and then after helping JWs to rebuild, they ask for the insurance money from those they helped.

  Do we have proof of this?

  We do know that they have requested that JWs not write that the donations they give for disaster relief have that written on their cheques. They are simply to sign the cheques for the "world wide work" and that the WTS will decide where the money is most needed.

  not necessarily. I suspect many Bethelites are in the dark regarding a few if not many of WTS' policies.

  We know a letter was read to the congregations about what to put on the cheques regarding what the money was for. If somone has that letter and could either post it or a link to it I would appreciate it

  I have heard it requested from the platform to make checks payable to something more generic. I'm not certain if it was "world wide work" or if it was "jehovah's witnesses". But I did hear them state they didn't want checks for relief work to mention relief work anywhere on the check.

  I know how charitable organizations work - they are required by law to use donations made specifically for something on that thing and on nothing else. And they need to keep records of everything.

  If they get a check made to Jehovah's Witnesses or whatever and in the memo section write "relief fund" I think even that needs to be directed to relief work and nothing else.

  They don't want to keep the records they would have to if people were more specific. In addition to that, they probably want to use any excess funds on whatever else they need.
