Media with JW parallels

  What media have you found that struck an eerie chord with you because of the parallels to JW life or examples of mind control in it?

  For me one would have to be 1984 by George Orwell. It has censorship where he thinks nothing of rewriting history to suit the current views. Plus big brother is always watching you to see what you did wrong. The emphasis is also placed on sexual chastity and on schooling yourself to only recite "new light" and fail to remember the "old light" before it.

  I also identified with the movie Equilibrium. It features a futuristic society after world war III in which a centralized government has imposed stringent controls on everything in order to prevent future wars. People are told how to think, contraband media is destroyed, and the law is strictly enforced by a group of all male clerics led by the patriarchy.

  Here's a real life example- from the AP out of Tehran, Iran (sorry too lazy to look up article & cut & paste so will just put in highlights) Titled - Want a slice of thin-crust 'elastic loaf' in Iran? Iranian president has ordered government & cultural bodies to use modified Persian words to replace foreign words that have crept inot the language, such as 'pizzas' which will now be known as 'elastic loaves' . The presidential decree orders all gov. agencies, newspapers and publications to use words deemed more appropriate by the official language watchdog, the Farhangestan Zaban e Farsi or Persian Academy.... The Academy has introduced more than 2,000 words as alternatives for some foreign words........ Among other changes, a 'chat' will become a 'short talk' and a 'cabin' will be renamed a 'small room according to the official web site of the academy.

  There is also a Mercedes Lackey book series called Arrows of the Queen where the border folks believe only in "one true god" and have very strict codes of conduct for their children. It was unthinkable for anyone to disagree with them and even given the chance to get away most would not.

  The movie "The Village" so represented a congregation. It made me think that M. Night Shalman was a witness.
