    Take a look at this:

    ***

w99 5/1 pp. 16-17 "Let the Reader Use Discernment" ***

    13

This has a direct bearing on discerning when "the disgusting thing" stands in a holy place. Recall what happened in the first century. The Romans attacked Jerusalem in 66 C.E., but they abruptly withdrew, which allowed Christian "flesh" to be saved. (Matthew 24:22) Accordingly, we expect the great tribulation to begin soon, but it will be cut short for the sake of God’s chosen ones. Note this key point: In the ancient pattern, ‘the disgusting thing standing in a holy place’ was linked to the Roman attack under General Gallus in 66 C.E. The modern-day parallel to that attack—the outbreak of the great tribulation—is still ahead. So "the disgusting thing that causes desolation," which has existed since 1919, apparently is yet to stand in a holy place. How will this happen? And how can we be affected?

    Compare:

    ***

dp chap. 15 p. 269 The Rival Kings Enter the 20th Century ***

    24

What "disgusting thing" has been "put in place" in modern times? Apparently, it is a "disgusting" counterfeit of God’s Kingdom. This was the League of Nations, the scarlet-colored wild beast that went into the abyss, or ceased to exist as a world-peace organization, when World War II erupted. (Revelation 17:8) "The wild beast," however, was "to ascend out of the abyss." This it did when the United Nations, with 50 member nations including the former Soviet Union, was established on October 24, 1945. Thus "the disgusting thing" foretold by the angel—the United Nations—was put in place.

Is this a contradiction? I wonder who proof-reads these things before its sent off to be printed?

    That is interesting.

"DP" is Pay Attention to Daniel’s Prophecy! also published in 1999.

Clearly, Jehovah's left Holy Spirit doesn't know what his right Holy Spirit is doing.

    What's new?

***dp chap. 13 p. 227 Two Kings in Conflict ***

The new king of the north, Antiochus IV, sought to show himself mightier than God by trying to eradicate Jehovah’s arrangement of worship. Defying Jehovah, he dedicated Jerusalem’s temple to Zeus, or Jupiter. In December 167 B.C.E., a pagan altar was erected on top of the great altar in the temple courtyard where a daily burnt offering had been made to Jehovah. Ten days later, a sacrifice to Zeus was offered on the pagan altar. This desecration led to a Jewish uprising under the Maccabees.

This is of course what the "disgusting thing" is in the actual context of Daniel (the historical account in 1 Maccabees 1:54 even refers to the altar as the "abomination of desolation," the same phrase as in Daniel). But the Society fails to see the connection between this event and what is described in Daniel.

I this this is just a matter of which came first the dp book or the magazine article. This was new light in the 1999 WT article which did not make the 1999 edit of the dp book. Sort of like the difference between the Insight book and the Paradise book.

    ***

    it-1 p. 616 (1988) Destruction ***

However, Jesus’ words recorded in Matthew 10:15 show that at least some of the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah will receive a resurrection.

    ***

    pe (1982--revised 1989) chap. 21 p. 179 Judgment Day and Afterward ***

Yes, for their excessive immorality the people of Sodom and of the surrounding cities suffered a destruction from which they will apparently never be resurrected.—

Blondie this is possible but either way it just again shows how fragile and inconsistent the JW belief system is. Besides arent the articles written months in advance of being printed? The WT came out in May and the DP in the summer of the same year. Someone in writing just didnt bother to check the DP book before it was printed. Food at the "proper time".... hardly! Not to put aside the fact that this "blunder" was never mentioned so that we could correct it when studying nor was it revised recently since I pulled both quotes off the 2005 CDROM. How the heck can God be running that org.??

Here's another one (courtesy of Quotes site):

    *** Examining the Scriptures Daily, May 19th, 2002 ***
Of course, the number of those associated with Jehovah's Witnesses is not a criterion for determining if they enjoy divine favor.

    *** Watchtower July 1, 2002, p.13, paragraph 17-19 ***
Now is the time for Jehovah to express mercy to his anointed servants and their other sheep companions. The evidence that this is so is the extraordinary increase with which he has blessed them…18. Each year, hundreds of thousands of additional "foreigners" associate with Jehovah's organisation, and the way will remain open for many more to follow them. Jehovah says to Zion: "Your gates will actually be kept open constantly; they will not be closed even by day or by night, in order to bring to you the resources of the nations, and their kings will be taking the lead" (Isaiah 60:11) Some opposers try to close those 'gates,' but we know that they cannot succeed. Jehovah himself has said that one way or another, the gates will stay open. The increase will continue.
    19. There are still other ways that Jehovah has blessed his people, making them beautiful in these last days.
