    Love's no 'Hustle' to star

'Hustle & Flow' star Terrence Howard has asked Dayanara Torres, whose ex is Marc Anthony, to marry him.
He may not have been the prime contender for Best Actor, but Terrence Howard deserves some kind of trophy for romantic fortitude.

The "Hustle & Flow" star split with wife, Lori, in 2003, after 14 years of marriage. Last year, the couple, who have three children and a home-renovation business in Philadelphia, tried to make another go of it. Their rapprochement lasted less than a year.

In the midst of his divorce, he met a woman who'd known her own heartache — Dayanara Torres. The 1993 Miss Universe had seen her husband, Marc Anthony, jettison her for Jennifer Lopez.

Howard is said to have fallen hard for the 31-year-old Puerto Rican beauty, who has two children of her own.

"They were only dating a few months when he proposed," says a source. "He told her he was at the tail end of a divorce, that his wife was with someone else now. But Dayanara got a little scared. She's got a lot of guys calling — like [Dole Food heir] Justin Murdock. But she doesn't want to rush into anything."

Religion may have been a factor. Torres is a serious Catholic; Howard has raised his children as Jehovah's Witnesses.

"She's really fond of Terrence," adds the source, "but as a friend."

Howard tells us: "Dayanara may be afraid of commitment — and I understand that. She's been hurt."

But the actor, who turns 37 on Saturday, explains, "I'm a traditional man. I'm looking for a woman who thinks the same way. I've learned what happens when you don't take marriage seriously."

The reason his wife doesn't go to alot of functions is because she is a Jehovah's Witness. Terrence is too, but he not practicing right now. He is an inactive Witness because of the acting roles that he chooses. He has said in the past that he does not want to be a hypocrite and claim JW and at the same time doing movies that do not reflect the lifestyle and beliefs of Witnesses.

I met Terence a few summers ago when he was in Toronto filming. He studied with a couple of elders in my congregation and attended meetings occasionally. He commented a lot. He's very articulate and incredibly handsome. Beautiful eyes. I didn't know who he was at the time I met him. Probably better that way. :)

I knew that he was a witness, but did'nt know that he was inactive. I respect him though, he's doing his thang.I hope he does'nt stop, he's one of my favorites.

I've always liked (ok, lust also) him. I didn't know till recently that he was a jw's.

I guess that doesn't make a good pimp, or vice versa. I'd rather see him continue acting.

I didn't pay much attention really. As I mentionned, I didn't know at the time who he was. I just recall him being a snappy dresser and being a big man. Tall, great eyes. Very kind.
