Funny how such a small thing can brighten your day.
I got an email from a high school buddy out of the blue today. We haven't spoken in a decade, and then it was a chance encounter at the grocery store. Turns out he wound up in insurance, just like me.
We haven't talked about "old times", just catching up. But I found myself drinking in his words like nectar. Each word was like touching him again; antics in school, shared moments. Hard to describe, it's like his email is a doorway to when I was 14. Pre-JW, pre-marriage, pre-job -- pre-everything. The world was wide open, though of course I didn't know it then.
Laughing at stupid things. Nicknames. Video games. Playing music on the jukebox at the pizza parlor.
Detention. :-(
To my friend, Joe. By touching base, you brought me back to the stadium. Or in our case, the bleachers. Kickball, anyone?
