Ready for flooding

Got home last night from being away all weekend for my mom's funeral. In our absence, it has been raining very heavily, and now we are just inches away from flooding in our area. This morning, I've just learned we all narrowly missed hitting stage 2 flooding.

Last time there was a big flood here a few years ago (before we came), it came very close to the highest level of flood. Our home is raised a bit, so it's just basement and garage I'm mostly concerned about. Still, there are some important things in those places.

And now I'm realizing I have to get off my rear and make sure we will have enough food, water, and propane (if needed) to hang out here if the waters rise around us. Move our camper. Figure out where to park our cars...

I've been having dreams of floods this past year, and managing thru them. They have always been very symbolic. What is ironic, perhaps, is right now I'm just shrugging a bit about something I used to be very concerned about happening. There's worse things that can happen (like, a mudslide!!).

Anyone else looking at rising water levels?

Get prepared bebu! I've heard this story about Noah, he built an ark and survived a flood of global perportions, or so the story goes..........

It rains all the time in beautiful Aruba!

I hope it doesn't happen. I'm sure you know when to leave the area if necessary.

    Thinking of you,

Perhaps your dreams were warning and preparing you. Sometime, at least in my case, dreams are not always symbolic but are glimpses of events to come.

Please be careful. And please keep us updated.

bikerchic, I wish I were in Aruba right now! SIGH!!!

Couldn't move the camper; the van got stuck, spinning out because the ground is so wet. Oh well, at least the van got out by itself. The camper's insured, anyway, if it gets flooded out.

Bebu, Do you have a sump pump in the cellar?

If not, get yourself a wet/dry vacuum, a small one, 5 gallons. This way, it's not too heavy, and can be easily emptied into a drum, or whatever.

I don't know if you are close to a river, or just worried about the ground water table. The water table was our problem a while back, when it rained for 9 days straight.

I wish I lived near you people, you know I'd be there to help. Good luck with it.

    Thanks hubert!

We do have a sump pump, and it works. We are both close to a river, and also dealing with rising water tables. I'm thinking now that it might be better if we evacuated, should that situation arise.

I remember your fight awhile back, when you were up all night long fighting rising water in your basement. Did NOT sound fun!!! But you did manage to have some luck there, punching thru to a special drain, as I recall. ...Anybody want some water??
