What did Jesus mean?

    When He said:

John 15:19 If you were of the world, the world would love [you as] its own. However, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of it, the world hates you.

    John 17:14-16

    The world hated them

because they are not of the world,

as I am not of the world.

    I am not praying

that You take them out of the world

but that You protect them from the evil one.

They are not of the world,

as I am not of the world.

    Any ideas?

In (pre-)Gnostic thinking this is pretty clear.

The elect already belonged to the Father, even before they were given / attracted to the Son. Thus they were no part of the world whose "prince" (arkhĂ´n) is not the Father. The Son does not give him a new status, he reveals their true divine status.

Re-read John's Gospel from this perspective and you'll be surprised.

Thanks, Narkissos. That is one of the reasons I escaped from the Watchtower demons.
