    Just wondering…

Why is it that some in Brooklyn have been Bethel Elders at headquarters for years, yet are not serving as Elders in their local congregations? Why are some Bethelites appointed Elders in their local congregations and yet don't qualify as such in Bethel? If Bethel is run like a congregation, why isn't there any Ministerial Servants in Bethel, only Elders?

    Just wondering…

G'day cyberguy and welcome to this happy place. Glad you could join us and start by asking some interesting points. Let's deal with the one at a time.
Why is it that some in Brooklyn have been Bethel Elders at headquarters for years, yet are not serving as Elders in their local congregations?
Are you sure of this? Perhaps there are some infirm brothers who formerly served as congregation elders but were deleted due to advancing age and infirmity.

Why are some Bethelites appointed Elders in their local congregations and yet don't qualify as such in Bethel?
Because the two assignments are different in scope. A Bethel elder represents the Society when he travels on speaking assignments. A local congregation elder doesn't. According to a recent WTS news release these men are "untrained volunteers".

If Bethel is run like a congregation, why isn't there any Ministerial Servants in Bethel, only Elders?
Is Bethel run like a congregation? Do the Society say this? I haven't heard it and didn't see it while I was there.

    Cheers,
    Ozzie
