Somebody at the Watchtower really thinks they've found a friend in Will Durant. Their web site alone has 4 references to him and one can hardly swing a prepubescent baptizee without hitting a dozen Watchtowers that quote this historian.
But would Will Durant appreciate their adoration? Would he perhaps join them, if only they could get a Watchtower into his learned hands?
Probably not, being that he's dead and all.
But even in life, I doubt he'd've had any great interest. Here's a quote of his that I've never seen in any Watchtower:
"Intolerance is the natural concomitant of strong faith; tolerance grows only when faith loses certainty; certainty is murderous."
I wonder why our friends in Brooklyn have never seen fit to reprint this little gem?
(Thanks to Sam Harris's "The End of Faith" -- a Christmas gift from Gina -- for bringing that quote to my attention)
