With all the questions being asked as to who can be trusted, I think it is most proper to ask the following questions.
Can Jehovah's Witnesses be trusted?
Can The Watchtower be trusted?
Trusted with what? The Truth of course. The sad answer is that both JWs and The Watchtower will bend, omit, twist, cover over, or otherwise hide any information about their history, beliefs, or activities that might make show them in a less than favorable light.

I think the questions need to go in the reverse order.

Nope They have proven repeatedly that the truth to them is something they can twist to fit their own narrow beliefs just as you stated.I don't know why I an even surprised anymore.
Can Jehovah's Witnesses be trusted?
I think individual JWs believe they have the truth. They believe what they have been taught. But believing something doesn't make it true. They have been lied to in a most serious manner - that causes some to die, others to tear families apart, and isolates them in a small world filled with fear.
Nothing good comes out of a pile of lies. And the saddest thing about all this is that they all call their lies Truth
Too true. No trust here. They lie, people die. That about covers it.
