Members of the Kingdom Hall, West Branch, approached Gwendolyn Williams in 2002, for funds to remedy a severe health hazard caused by a severe problem with mold at this institution.
A meeting took place at Ms. Williams home where she agreed to provide a loan which was to be only used for the renovation or rebuilding of the West Kingdom Hall Congregation at this site.
This was an informal meeting, with only an Elder, his wife, Ms. Williams and at the time her husband present. It’s was explained to Ms. Williams, that there was a need for additional funds to restore or rebuild the building which was causing a health threat to anyone entering the building. Ms. Williams whom her self had not been able to attend meeting at this building because of lung problems her being on oxygen at the time was eager to be able to help.
The Kingdom Hall invested money to trying to correct the mold problem but the result was that it was not a correctable problem and the building was demolishes with plans to rebuild on the same site. Problems occurred and a plan to rebuild on the site abandoned.
Ms. Williams made this loan in good faith with the knowledge that the loan was for this site and this site only.
Ms Williams had given substantial monetary donations not only to the West Congregation but also to the main office in the past as she is sure your records will indicate.
Where as the fund which were intended as a loan for this site were not fulfilled Ms. Williams is requesting the reimbursement of the Ninety-Five Thousand dollars ($95,000), in full. At the time of the agreement, there was also the mention of interest to be paid in which she has no plans of pursuing.
Ms. Williams is only asking for the society to do the right thing and return the money she so freely loaned in good faith without have to seek outside help or to bring any undue publicity to the Society.
Sincerely yours:
Gwendolyn Williams
