Was it ever a question of if? It was a matter of how many were going to vote against it.

Side note: Did anyone catch the South Park episode where Mr. Garrison riles up the city to vote against gay marriage? His thinking was that since {he} was a legal woman now, {he} should be able to marry Mr. Slave instead of that other guy. Hilarious.

Ya gotta love how Canada (where gay marriage is now legally enshrined) and the USA are going in completely reverse directions!

Canada is becoming the Netherlands.....the US is becoming Iran!!! LOL

If gay marriage was beneficial to politicians or if the government got any revenue as a result of it in any way everybody would vote for it. It wouldn't be a moral issue.

the bad part about texas and virginia's laws is that they could be interpreted to disallow contracts between partners such as power of attorney, power over health issues, wills, anything that makes it look like they were trying to copy a marriage.

any gay couple with assets is very unwise to stay in virginia or texas.

75% of the population agreed to it??? That's nuts! Talk about the "land of the free". I bet that if there was a vote on assault rifles in the state it would pass by a 75% margin too. "We gots da rights to bear arms ya'no!"

I don't think its any great surprise, with the huge baby boomer population being the most active at the polls. They grew up with very different ideas on morality, sexuality, and race than younger people have today, I don't see this sort of thing changing until the Gen X'ers are the majority.

What the government is missing out on is the Marriage Penalty Tax... where a joint household is taxed on higher collective tax rate instead of the individual's taxable earnings.
