O.K. I know that pretty soon my mother will loose it and would begin questioning my leaving the bOrg. I'm typing a list of simple questions, so I'm coming to you, dear fellow members, foryour input on about simple questions that can get a JW thinking about their so-called 'truth'. Please help.

Hi Mastodon, I hope all goes well for you when the confrontation happens. There is lots of information on the net that will help you deal with it, I am sure you will cope. Maybe you could ask about some of the distortions in the NWT, such as John 1:1, where the wt added an "a" . I could never satisfactorily answer that one to a non jw, and I've never met a dub who can.
Take care my friend

Hey Dude,
I like picking on doctrines that are small and self-contained. 1914 is all over the place, they have a few ways to get to it, it's a tangled mess that you could only successfully debate with a JW that truly understands it. (Most don't) I've never had a successful discussion with a JW, so I can't say what would work, but you could ask some thought provoking questions:
"If you suspected you were brain washed, how could you prove to yourself that you weren't?"
"What thing could the Watchtower do that would convince you they were not being used by God?"
"Why do they forbid birthdays? Isn't that 'going beyond what is written'?" (http://thebentinel.com/jw-birthdays.html)

Following AA's suggestion on birthdays, try out Pinata's too. Coming from San Diego, we had a sizeable Mexican contingent in the area. I will always remember how the brothers said that having pinatas at a get together were a no-no. I never knew the reason why they were banned until the latest Awake article came out saying it was OK to have them. I had to read the previous article to know why they were banned. Once I saw the black and white difference between the articles, it just made my jaw drop. There was also a small paragraph that stated that any celebratory fixture was OK as long as it was not viewed as having false religious ties anymore. Are birthdays still viewed as having false religious ties? Did they ever??

There's been speculation that the Awake article on pinatas was a mistake, not just an error in judgement, but an article that just didn't get read over well enough before it was printed. Considering how far afield it was from normal "pagan origin = bad, bad, bad" Watchtower views, I think it's likely. They will always regret printing that little gem.
Is it available on the quotes site? Lemme go check.... No, apparently it's not. :-(
