this has happened to me on 4 occasions.
3 times it was an elder and i simply pretended i didn't know him and avoided eye contact.
the other time was someone of my age that didn't really talk to me of the opposite sex.

i've begun to suspect this act - this will - this compulsory muse which i call "writing" is, in fact, the illusion of catharsis.
like a mirage shimmering far off on the horizon i gaze upon the unreachable waters of a quiescent mind.
and far too often i've trekked through these shifting sands of unrefined ideas and abrasive conclusions towards that placid falsehood.

i have to take some time off even from some of my favorite activities for a while...that means here...until i can adjust to a new medical therapy.. i just learned today that i have nocturnal epilepsy and have been having seizures almost every night for several decades!
just started medication that will mess me up when it comes to processing my thinking and typing for a while, so until that straightens out i will just have to read for now.. but look it up.

i was out detecting this evening for an hour after work and found this amazing bit of history.. it is a lead seal that originated on a document from pope martin v at some time between 1417 and 1431. these official documents were called papal bulls and were dispatched to all the parishes in the medieval empire.
this example has later been made into a spindle whorl which is why it has a hole through the centre.
lead whorls were used before spinning wheels were invented to make yarn of sheep's wool.. the inscription "spaspe" stands for "sanctus paulus sanctus petrus" and the two busts are of paul and peter.. the reverse has "martinus pp.

i`m no fitness fanatic by any stretch of the imagination though throughout my life i have strived on & off (more often than not , off ) to maintain some level of fitness activity.. i retired about 10 years ago and for the first few years i joined two table tennis clubs , social activity, though not anymore.. and i have become more of a couch potato these past few years with the internet and netflix and the club as my main concern of activity if you can call it that ,and it has been bothering me ,so finally i did something about it.. only a few doors down from me is a medical health clinic with a gym that caters for seniors like myself , so i bit the bullet and joined up .. and i`m proud of it.. if it kills me in the process then i`ll die doing what i want to do at my age.. sorry to bore you with this post ,but what did you expect a future mr. universe ?.

i stumbled across something the other day that made me sit up because it seemed to perfectly describe a feeling i experience from time to time that apparently isn't uncommon.. it's called autonomous sensory meridian response or "asmr" and is a kind of tingly feeling on/in your head.
you can read about it here:.

i got out detecting for an hour this evening.
the field just two minutes from my house has been harrowed but not seeded which makes it perfect for me.
hopefully it will stay that way until it is seeded in the spring.

after a very quiet couple of hours detecting this afternoon i was chuffed to find this silver coin.. it is a groat of edward iii of england.
for a long time the only coin available was the silver penny.
if you wanted to spend half a penny or a quarter you literally cut it up.

i got in an hour metal detecting this evening and found this almost immediately.. it is a silver penny of henry ii minted in london by "davi" between 1180 and 1189. this adds a king i didn't have in my collection.
i now have the series of henry ii - john - henry iii - edward i - edward ii - edward iii.. i now need richard the lionheart to fill in the gap.
he was the brother of john and reigned after the death of henry ii.

now the harvest is underway up north i can get out for a walk with the metal detector in the evening.
i am lucky to live on a historic rural estate and i have permission from the landowner to detect.. this is a coin that popped up last night.
it was only about 2 inches deep and had been tumbling around in the plough soil for the last 750 years.. it is a silver penny of king henry iii.
