Weltschmerz

The Germans have a word for everything it seems.

The word Weltschmerz is sometimes defined as the depression that occurs from comparing the world as it is, to a hypothetical idealized world. I think this is what is at the root of why so many JW's suffer depression when supposedly they are "God's happy people". The weekly diet of talks and magazine articles outlining the bad in the present world compared to the perfect one just around the corner is bound to have an negative effect on ones psyche. Being free of all that by not attending meetings or reading thier literature has improved my life and outlook immensly. Wish I'd have found out about this sooner.

    Literally, "world pain." Cool word.

Glad you're out - better late than never.
