  Sometimes I think it's easy to underestimate just how strong, brave and courageous we ex JWs are. To have made the decision to leave this religion and be true to ourselves, even though this may have been done at an enormous cost. Many of us have lost all or most of our families some even their marriage mate. Some have lost their employment. We have had to let go of the security of the beliefs we may have held for decades. We have had to go out into a world we were conditioned to believe was wicked and try and find new friends. For many of us we find we don't even know what to believe in anymore.
  
  And we've had to do all this in the face of the terrible psychological damage the WT organisation has inflicted on us. Many of us are doing this also with the scars of a physically or verbally abusive childhood caused by parents who used the control and discipline of the 'truth' instead of good parenting skills. And there are those of us who have the dreadful scars of sexual abuse to contend with as well.
  
  But we are now living our own lives and making our own choices. Some choices turn out to be good ones and others not so good. But at least we are making life choices using our own free will. Life after exiting JWs is not always going to be smooth sailing. We will all have our good days and bad days and sometimes it seems like there are more bad ones than good.
  
  But WE ARE SURVIVORS of this cult and we should never underestimate ourselves and the power we had within us to do what we did. No matter what else happens in our life we have this to be proud of. We need to remind ourselves of this often and give ourselves a big pat on the back.

  That is so true BabaYaga - that's why we have every reason to be proud of ourselves for doing it.

  Instead of calling ourselves ex-JW's we should call ourseves Survivors of Dubdome or SODS for short!
