The U.S. senate appears to be interested in reviewing Federal tax treatment of charitable contributions according to Report - Present Law and Background Relating to the Federal Tax Treatment of Charitable Contributions (http://www.jct.gov/publications.html?func=startdown&id=4371). I encourage everyone to read the aforementioned information and write to their U.S. representatives and committee members of the Joint Committee on Taxation (http://www.jct.gov/) and the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction (http://www.deficitreduction.gov/public/) about ways to prevent dangerous cults from benefiting from government tax-exempt status. I am sending correspondences to U.S. senators and representatives and will post my letter on this forum by 10/30/11 asking them to enact legislation that would prevent the WTBTS, Unification Church, and other dangerous cults from qualifying as charitable organizations.
