There seems to be no reason in principle why aging cannot be overcome by science. Aubrey de Grey and Ray Kurzweil may be optimisitc on how soon this will be achieved however. There was another interesting series on the BBC with theoretical physicist and futurist Michio Kaku called Visions of the Future:

I remember being at Bethel in the ninteen seventies and reading about scientific aging breakthroughs. The cell crosslinks, the rna , they always seem to think they were on verge of finding the cause and a cure.
Well I am still hopeful but don't know if I will live to see it.
