Does anyone know what happened to Douglas Walsh when the Society lost the case? All the references to the case concentrate on Freddie Franz and his inabilty to translate a single verse of the Bible into Hebrew and to Grant Suiter who let the cat out regarding disfellowshiping and altered doctrine.

Walsh, I understand was a pioneer and possibly the Congregation Servant. Did he go to prison? Is he still alive? Is he still a witness? He will be in his 70's or 80's now I susspect.

A bit of additional information on this guy.

Born 1 November 1934. Baptised at 12 yrs 3 months (nearly 3 yrs before leaving school). Pioneer from leaving school at 15. Appointed Congregation servant 20 October 1952 (nearly 18 yr old) at Dumbarton (Scotland) congregation.

Does anyone know of anyone in Dumbarton congregation? I seem to remember a family called EACUPS from there many years ago.

We had a couple of days of ministerial training back in 2011 in Dumbarton Kingdom Hall.

The Glasgow congregations are all pretty "close" - I do know someone from Dumbarton (who is still in), but I'm not sure they would go back as far in history as this. You might also try people in nearby congregations such as Clydebank, Paisley/Renfrew, Port Glasgow or Maryhill/Bishopbriggs.

Perhaps slimboyfat or dozy might know older folks in the area.

I always meant to ask an older sister in our congregation what she knew about this case. She had strong opinions on most things, so I am sure she would have had something interesting to say about it. Sadly she died last year so I can't ask her now. There is no one left in our congregation, to my knowledge, whose memory goes back as far as... 1954 was it? The oldest member of our congregation arrived here from England in the late 1950s.

Dumbarton and Clydebank are pretty big congregations (at least they used to be, probably shriking now) so there may possibly be some ones left who are old enough to remember first hand.

Hey 88JM are you going down to a certain "spiritual" event in the next few weeks? Do you want to meet up perhaps?

Sorry slimboyfat - our congregation is now in a different circuit this service year, so will be heading eastwards. I've forgotten when ours is though.

If I get down your way I'll be sure to let you know. Will probably be down at least at the end of August for the DC in Glasgow.

You know I downloaded the trial transcripts and saw a great video on YouTube showing the things said by Franz and Covington but do not know what the trial was actually about.

Anyone care to share the meat and potatoes on this trial.

It was about whether JWs should be exempt from military service on the basis that they claim to be ordained ministers.

I did ask an old elder in the Glasgow area once about him & they thought that he might have emigrated to Canada or Australia in the early 60's but they didn't seem very sure.

192.com brings up a few people called Douglas Walsh in the Glasgow area but doesn't flag up anyone in that age range. I don't recall anyone of that name serving as an elder. A certain elder in Dumbarton (initials GG ) goes back a long way - maybe he would know for sure.

Anybody actually been to the NAS in Edinburgh http://www.nas.gov.uk/default.asp and read the court transcripts? I was going to once - I'd already phoned up & they had made the records available but got dragged by the wife into Jenners!
