i was browsing the new 2001 wt cd, looking for stats on memorial partakers.

the consistant up/down of the figures ammuses me

anywho....what i found disturbing is while i can find on the cd only goes back to 1991. no farther.

so i poped in the 99 cd rom, same results.

a mystery! why hide these stats on the cd? why only place them in print, and not on digital media?

Healthy old geezers, ain't they? And the numbers keep bobbing up and down.

We could change all that by each of us going to a KH where we're not known and scarfing down the goodies. They'd have no warning and couldn't do anything about it, especially if we sat in the middle of the middle row.

    Francois,

I wish I had the guts to do that!

I've always hated the Memorial - don't know why. It was the most boring meeting of the year. The only good thing was that it was pretty short - approx 50 minutes where I went. I hated it when we had someone 'anointed' visiting (we didn't have our own). I used to feel so uneasy as they drank the wine and ate the bread. I KNEW in my heart they were living a lie and I longed to do a runner whenever this happened. I never believed that there were any members of the 144,000 left on the earth now - not when you realise there were approx 1 million Christians at the end of the 1st century - and apparently there were roughly 4 million at the end of the 5th century (I read that somewhere - can't think where). Why couldn't the 144,000 have been chosen from them? These people were contempories of Jesus and many could perform miracles, speak in tongues etc (if you believe the Bible, that is). So how come God couldn't find 144,000 out of those people back then but had to wait to choose the remaining ones today? Seems a bit too far fetched to me.

The numbers are consistently posted in the chart in the January 1 issues of the Watchtowers but does not show up on the WT-CD. The number are also in a charter in the yearbook that is also not put on the WT-CD.

With a little sleuthing, it is possible to find more numbers. I have them back to 1950 with only 2 gaps.

    yb93 p. 254 Organizing for Further Expansion ***

Sixty years later, in 1991, the worldwide peak of publishers was 4,278,820, of whom only 8,850 professed to be of the anointed remnant.

1990-1988 Look in graphs of January 1 issues or chart in yearbook for that year.

    ***

    w88 12/15 p. 12 Angelic Messages for Our Day ***

At the Memorial of 1987, attendance was 8,965,221, with only 8,808 partakers.

    ***

    w87 1/1 p. 4 Jubilation Among God’s People ***

Attendance at the principal meeting of the year, the Memorial of Jesus’ death, rose to at least 8,160,597, though some reports were not received because of worsening world conditions. The number partaking of the Memorial emblems fell to 8,927 (1986) as older anointed ones completed their earthly service.—Revelation 2:10.

    1986**see chart

    *** w86 2/15 p. 14 Unitedly Pursuing the Goal of Life ***

In 1985 a grand total of 7,792,109 persons so memorialized Jesus’ death. However, those partaking of the Memorial bread and wine, symbolizing Jesus’ human body and blood, numbered only 9,051. Why so few?

*** jv chap. 33 Continuing to Keep on the Watch ***

    1985 ... 7,792,109 .... 9,051

    *** w85 1/1 p. 26 Witnessing Brings Kingdom Increase ***

This is shown by the remarkable attendance at the Lord’s Evening Meal last April 15. In the congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses around the earth, a total of 7,416,974 attended, of whom 9,081 indicated that they were of the Lord’s "little flock" by partaking of the bread and the wine.

    *** w85 2/15 p. 15 Nisan 14—A Day for Remembering ***

And yet, of that vast multitude, there were only 9,081 who partook of the emblems.

    *** w85 12/15 p. 18 Urgently Needed—More Harvest Workers! ***

An indication is given by the fact that at the celebration of the Memorial on April 15, 1984, only 9,081 professed to be members of the 144,000.

    *** w85 1/1 Witnessing Brings Kingdom Increase ***

    Memorial Partakers 9,081 9,292

    *** w84 1/1 p. 13 Publishing Good News of Something Better ***

Most thrilling of all is the report on the Memorial, held on the evening of March 29, 1983, in some 46,235 congregations around the earth. Only 9,292 persons indicated their heavenly hope by partaking of the emblems

    *** w81 4/15 p. 21 The Millennial Hope Triumphs ***

Those partaking of the emblems of the bread and the wine were only 9,564 worldwide, indeed just a few "remaining ones" of the 144,000 who are to rule with Jesus in his millennial kingdom.

*** jv chap. 33 Continuing to Keep on the Watch ***

    1980 ... 5,726,656 .... 9,564

    *** w81 4/15 p. 21 The Millennial Hope Triumphs ***

These two groups were represented at the celebration of the Lord’s Evening Meal held on March 31, 1980. Those partaking of the emblems of the bread and the wine were only 9,564 worldwide, indeed just a few "remaining ones" of the 144,000

    zev,

my thought is that speaking in algebraic terms, memorial attendance has pretty much been a flat line for the past decade or so.

FYI they do publish numbers on paper in the Watchtower. But however I am pretty sure the 144,000 flock has been hit. Over these past 70 plus years.
