I've been thinking about buying another car so I started looking around on some websites like http://autos.yahoo.com. I found two used cars in my area that were what I was interested in, only their prices were well below the blue-book value. I thought it was a bit odd but I went ahead and sent each one an email wanting to schedule a time that I could drive by and take a look at each car.

Later that day I got an email from one seller and then later I got another email from the other seller. It turns out that BOTH just so happened to have recently moved to another country, one to the UK and the other to Greece. It also turns out that BOTH had difficulty bringing the car into the new country they moved to and so needed to sell it. They BOTH talked about me paying money in advance and both said that I could have the car delivered to my home for a test drive. Also, both emails contained several phrases that were exactly the same, word-for-word.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how to notify the Yahoo! admins so they can remove these ads, but so far all of the help sections are written for the sellers and not the buyers.

Thank you for your interest in my car. I know there are numerous offers and I'm glad that you choose to contact me regarding your willingness to purchase. My wife was recently promoted so we had to move in UK. I listed the car as from USA because the website didn't let me to use my country. We brought the car with us, wanting to register it here, but I couldn't because in order to get it registered here it will need serious engine modifications to comply with the E U emission standards. The car is bought from US and is made for US market. So that is why I prefer to sell it quick now and get rid of it while I still can, because time is running and I can't keep it like that, there is a deadline term when I must pay the import tax, so I can't afford to lose time and I prefer to make some
    money while I still can.

The car is like new, completely working, low miles, with 3 years EXTENDED, INTERNATIONAL and TRANSFERABLE warranty, which will be honored at any dealer in your country. It is US model with US specs and passed the US test emissions. All the manuals and the original documentation are written in eight languages. The title is clear and you will register it in your state. It will come with all the papers(warranty, insurance etc. ...)

The payment is fully refundable, if for any reason you do not accept the car or if it has scratches, hidden defects, or it is not as advertised. I will even pay for the shipping back to my location if you reject it but since it is a state of the art vehicle and works and looks perfectly I am positive it would not get to this.

Let me know if you are interested in buying it.
Hope to hear from you soon!

    Hello there,

PLEASE TELL ME HOW YOU WANT TO CLOSE THIS DEAL WITH ME,you want to come and get the car your self or you want to close this deal with me trough square trade.I am a registered member with Square Trade and I have completed a lot of successful deals using them. I have a purchase protection account of $10,000 and I assume you know what this means. If you did not hear about Square Trade here are their terms: if you will not receive the car EXACTLY as advertised or you don't receive it in 15 days since you made the deposit, Square Trade will refund you from my Square Trade account.

The price I want to obtain for it is $8000 (With shipping included if we will close this deal trough square trade).

    Thank you.

Very interesting. I wonder if this is one of those things though that it isn't really considered a scam until enough people bite at it and are screwed over. Anyone with a working head on their shoulders wouldn't go for it though.

Yeah, that's kinda creepy. I wonder how many victims these people have managed to fleece?

A couple of years ago, I started to receive calls from someone who spoke in broken english. They were trying to send me money was all I could make out. When they didn't seem to get through they'd put a little child on the line who spoke better english. It was strange. Several different people like this called over about a three or four month period of time. I have no idea how they got my number, but it was some kind of scam. I was getting ready to change my number when the calls stopped.

Never did make sense out of it. Strange...

I just looked at autos.yahoo.com and found many of these con-ads. I'm amazed Yahoo! has not cracked down on them.
