Rant about the term "WORLDLY"!!!!

My husband was talking at the table with his young adult daughter last night. For those of you that don't know, he is a long time Witness, and his children are of course Witnesses also. I am not and never have been. We were married when he was df'd, and I knew all about him being a Witness and wanting to return. I have never squelched him wanting to attend/be re-instated and have supported him, but always make it clear that I disagree and believe what I believe.

So they were discussing a young friend of hers, and he has a girlfriend. A WORLDLY girlfriend! Husband's reaction was him throwing his head back in exasperation when hearing this about her friend. Perhaps it is because he is not of the proper age to date (16 maybe?), but the worldly reference I'm sure made him react. This young friend of hers is an "unbaptised publisher".........yet another label................

What then, am I??? I had a hard time keeping it together and not jumping in to the conversation with...................."I am worldly, am I not?" Can't they see how insulting this is to ME? (or anyone outside the organization) Yes I know the answer to this, just a rant, remember.

I will have to bring this up to him because it is really bothering me, but dread the reaction and hours of discussion it is going to bring. It seems entirely hypocrytical......................another thing I can't get my mind around.......

    end of rant-

    WW signing off..........

great rant ... thanks ... it's how I go off in my head all the time at my (shunning) family ... but they love me

That's gotta really hurt, WW, coming from your partner. I don't know if I could hold it together ... so rant away, you have earned the right.

    :What then, am I???

You are the worldly spouse aka. "the project".

Lol, it must be tough to be married to a witness.

I've never seen a group of people so obsesed with label, most of them negative. For years I've been taught how much JW's love people, all people then on the flip side I hear how "sub-human" worldly people are. Just one step up from animals, sometimes. I was driving with my brother-in-law a while back, he's a die hard JW, someone cut us off, and this loving brother said, "I can't wait till these people just die!!!" Can't you feel the love??

The term "worldly" means such a different thing out in the real world. It means sophisticated, up on current events, educated, modern, all sorts of things. Someone who sticks their head in a hole and only feeds on WTS stuff is far from worldly, they are narrow minded, have limited knowledge, and definitely not modern.

I think it would be good for you to stand up to that, tell him how that makes you feel.

At a very young age, I was intrigued by whirly girls and was determined to find out why they whirled so much.
