Wow of poverty, Brooklyn style

As we all know, the most important thing any human being can do, is to peddle Watchtower literature to the unsuspecting public, preferably full time. Why? Well, it is because time is so incredibly short. No one really has the time to have a job, an education, a career, in short a life! And by the way, you shouldn’t have a bank account either:

    *** w67 12/15 762 Honored to Serve with Jehovah's Progressive Organization ***
I am sure the greatest bank account in the world cannot bring the satisfaction that we have enjoyed and still enjoy in the glorious treasure of service that God has granted to us.

As we also know, having a large bank account makes us all incredibly miserable and depressed, so imagine how much more rewarding it is to have no such account but spend the whole life pushing Watchtower magazines. And if you want to be a pioneer and think you need a well-stocked bank account first? Forget it, listen to this:

    *** w57 2/15 116 How Jehovah's Witnesses View Their Ministry ***
13 That it can be and is being done, behold the thousands of splendid pioneer examples world-wide today! Any who wish to pioneer and are holding back lacking a bank account to sustain them years in the pioneer work would do well to note the following from happy pioneers: “Twenty years ago we (man and wife) began with very few dollars. During that time we have wanted for no necessary thing.

Of course it is every parents dream to see their children flat broke all their lives, having a minimal wage job, riding the mop in the Watchtower Window cleaner university, and end up old and worn out with absolutely no money. They don’t? Well, that’s the most probable outcome for those who was dumb enough to listen to this nonsense in 1959, 40 years ago:

*** w59 9/15 552 Salvation for Your Family as Well as Your Neighbor *** What is the hope or ambition being inculcated in the minds of your children? Are they being filled with the thought that it is an admirable thing to fill or occupy an important position in this old world, or are they imbued with the better hope of fulfilling an important function in the new world? Are you teaching them to invest themselves in the bankrupt institution that is the old world, or are they being trained to live for truth and righteousness as grateful praisers of the great Creator of heaven and earth? Which is more important for children today: to have a good account in the bank reckoned in dollars saved, or a good account with Jehovah reckoned in lives saved? What are your children being trained for? Is the full-time missionary service held before them as a great privilege, a gift from the Most High God himself?

How do a Jehovah's Witness save lives, you may ask? By pushing Watchtower literature on the general public of course. The “bankrupt institutions of this world” of course carry on like never before. Have the Watchtower Society learned anything in the years that have passed by since they wrote the insane drivel above? Well, judge for yourself:

*** w97 8/15 16-17 Living for Today or for an Eternal Future? ***
19 True, this system has already lasted longer than many thought it would. A few may now feel that had they known this before, they might not have made certain sacrifices. But one should not regret having done so. After all, making sacrifices is a fundamental part of being a Christian. Christians ‘disown themselves.’ (Matthew 16:24) Never should we feel that our efforts to please God have been in vain. Jesus promised: “No one has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the good news who will not get a hundredfold now . . . and in the coming system of things everlasting life.” (Mark 10:29, 30) A thousand years from now, how significant will your job, house, or bank account seem? Still, the sacrifices you have made for Jehovah will be meaningful a million years from now—a billion years from now! “For God is not unrighteous so as to forget your work.”—Hebrews 6:10.

If you are sitting in a run down hovel in a third rate neighborhood, with bad health, no job etc. Should you feel bad about it? Do you regret that you listened to the drivel in the Watchtower? Of course you shouldn’t. The Watchtower Society doesn’t feel at all bad about it. After all, it won’t matter a whit 1000 years from now that you were such an idiot and didn’t have a life. You will be dead and gone. Your efforts to please the great multinational publishing corporation in Brooklyn won’t matter in a thousand years either, in fact nothing much will matter in a thousand years. But does this help you now? Nope, sorry buster. Did you perhaps remember reading this?

    *** w68 1/15 38 Security That Even Money Cannot Buy ***
So when a person seeks for God and serves him, God promises to take care of him, to provide for him. Not that he will provide material riches now, for he has not promised that. Jesus did not encourage his disciples to pray for a large bank account.

Are you wondering why God doesn’t provide for you now? Isn’t the Christian message very convenient, you can’t have anything in this life, only in the next are you going to have everything? For some reason the only ones needing a large bank account is of course the Watchtower Society, and countless other Churches. Somehow God is always flat broke, God can’t do a thing without money, preferably yours. What’s in it for you? Oh you get to live in a Paradise/Heaven, after you die! No wonder these Churches never have any complains, eh? Are you wondering why you never see anyone from the congregation, when you relax a bit from pushing Watchtower literature? Do you remember this gem from Gods “channel of communication”?

*** w67 12/15 762 Honored to Serve with Jehovah's Progressive Organization *** I am sure the greatest bank account in the world cannot bring the satisfaction that we have enjoyed and still enjoy in the glorious treasure of service that God has granted to us.

    And this:

    *** w68 1/15 35 Security That Even Money Cannot Buy ***
TO MOST people security means having material possessions. If they have a good job, a fine home and a substantial bank account, they feel they are secure.

Yes, imagine being so foolish, imagine that having a fine home, a good job and money in the bank, how utterly foolish such people are, when they can spend their old age like many “faithful” Watchtower slaves, enjoying the “blessings” of a lifetime of pushing Watchtowers. Don’t we all feel immensely depressed about the mere thought of having a lot of money in the bank? Goreblimey what an utterly depressing thought! But you who listened to the “wisdom” of Brooklyn don’t have to worry about such matters:

    *** w70 3/1 144 What Is the Future of Today's Youth? ***
25 Material possessions deteriorate with time and wear out with use, and so their benefit to a person is of limited duration. Consider, for example, the person who expends his youthful strength and vigor in a business that eventually brings him a fine income. He has a large account in the bank and holds many securities, but how safe is it all? An economic crisis can cause the value of his securities to tumble, and the bank can close its doors, leaving him with nothing.

You who listened to the wonderful advice from “Jehovah’s channel of communication” don’t have to worry about material possessions, because the hovel you are living in has already deteriorated so much that even YOU can afford to live there. You don’t have to worry about banks and economic crisis because you have no money at all, what a blessing! You will never find that the Watchtower Society worry about such material things as bank accounts and securities and economic crisis. Do you?

    *** w72 6/1 345 Singapore Suppresses Christian Minority ***
“The bank account of the Singapore Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses was also seized by the authorities. This money had all been contributed on a voluntary basis, being donated by good-hearted persons who wished to see the Bible-educational work expand in Singapore. None of it was obtained by taking up collections or soliciting it from the people. The congregation had not engaged in any kind of commercial business.

Well, how ungrateful of the Watchtower Society, after all the trouble the Singapore authorities had gone through by trying to help them to get rid of their materialistic tendencies regarding bank accounts like that as some kind of “security”. How comforting it must have been for the Jehovah's Witnesses in Singapore that Jehovah look at the heart, not bank accounts:

    *** w88 7/1 30 Exploiters of 'Poverty and Ignorance'? ***
It should not surprise us, then, that the truth today has borne fruit primarily among the common people. Jehovah is still looking, not at a person’s bank account or secular education, but at the heart.

Jehovah and the Watchtower Society doesn’t seem to be much interested in the brain either. Now, as you sit there in the autumn of you life, looking back on a long life peddling Watchtower publications and pushing brooms late nights and early mornings, you can reflect on how you didn’t consider such things as “a car and a bank account” necessities when you went for the “full time service”. And now you don’t have to worry about these things at all because it is too late for you to get them anyway. What a blessing! How well Jehovah has taken care of you!:

    *** w77 11/15 701 Enlarging Your Sacred Service ***
One Witness who started pioneer service at eighteen years of age and has been in the full-time service for thirty-four years reflects that when he started he did not have what many of his friends considered necessities, such as a car and a bank account, but he has never been in serious want. Moreover, his life has been filled with blessings that would never have come his way outside the full-time service.

We are now in a new century. The Watchtower Society will of course drone on about the folly of education, careers and bank accounts. Millions of idiots will of course keep on listening to them. But this will not matter much in a thousand years, because it will probably still be going on in some form. - So long all you poor suckers! May you all stay poor in all eternity. We have Brooklyn’s word for it, it is the best possible way of life!

One question that always elicits blank stares and silence from JWs:
What did Jesus mean when he said, 'the poor will be with you always'?

How long is 'always'? Is post-Armageddon part of 'always'?

    Mommie,

You must have really had dumb JWs when you asked the question, "How long is 'always'? Is post-Armageddon part of 'always'?", as far as Jesus saying that the poor would always be with us.

My answer would have been, as taught by the WTBTS, that the Bible was written for our time before the big A, to get us through to the "New System" when "new scrolls will be opened", and so the "poor" would would only be "with us" until God's "New System" took over.

For those who do not know, I no longer believe this stuff, so my writing is not in defense, but in awe of the stupidity, of the average JW who was stumped by this particular question. As I a Jdub I was not brilliant by any toss of the coin, but could have answered that one. So where does that place all the other Jdubs who couldn't? I was born "in", so maybe the problem lies with the type of people who are "drawn" to this Organization and come in on their own?
