Some things never change. Pastor Russell who is claimed by both the Bible Students and Jehovah's Witnesses was opposed to voting. This is one of the few teachings handed down by Russell that JWs still adhere to. In the Dec. 1882 ZWT, R424: page 8: appears the following "QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS..

"Ques. Should we vote or hold public office?

"Ans. 'Render to Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's.' (Matt. 22:21) If we have changed our allegiance from this world to Heaven--if we 'are not of this world'--if 'our citizenship is in heaven' (John 17:16; Phil 3:20) then we are aliens, pilgrims and strangers and not citizens of this country, and should claim and use only such favors as are accorded to aliens. If we are wholly consecrated to God, we have neither time no influence to devote to politics. If we see clearly that present governments are those of the 'prince of this world' and must all be shattered and give place to the Kingdom of God for which we pray, 'Thy kingdom come,' then we shall have no further desire to be mixed up with them in any way.

"The 'little flock' is so small and insignificant anyhow, that their votes would not turn the scale. Let the world manage its own government while we wait for ours."

Again, in the Aug. 1, 1893 ZWT is an article against voting.

In the Nov. 1905 issue of Z.W.T. a similar question is raised and again the answer to voting is no. Russell also cites DAWN Vol. 1, chapts. 13 and 14; also Vol. VI, pp. 593-594.

From this legacy has come down to us the current view on voting by Jehovah's Witnesses. See

Make sure you also click on to "Public statements on voting" near the top.

In a recent interview of presiding overseers in Danville, Kentucky they state that Jehovah's Witnesses do not force people not to vote or not to join the military. "We have our beliefs, but its up to each Witness how he or she will follow those beliefs." See

Give me a break. And do they actually think anyone will go against those beliefs and vote or participate in the military? Little chance we will see any JWs at the election polls. this November.

Even if that was the stand of CTR, at least you didn't get disfellowshipped or disassociated for it!
