Does anyone know if a letter from the WTS has been sent to the congregations about their being a member of the UN as an NGO? Or has it just been told to the elders and then the rank and file hear about it if they ask the elders?

I know the WTS said it was to get a library card but I need to know if there was actually a public announcement to the congregations about it.

    Hi!

This question was asked just a couple of days ago. Here is the thread below:

To the best of my knowledge, this information was only given to the elders in the event they received any questions.

BTW - welcome to both toreador and scrubmaster!

I'm glad I viewed this topic. I knew about the NGO thing from Ray Franz's book but had no idea that the elders had been given the organization's version of why. My question is how long ago was this communicated to the elders and has there been any adverse reaction within their ranks?

Wouldn't a brother or sister risk interrogation concerning how they had heard about the NGO thing if they questioned an elder? Thanks.

I questioned several elders at Bethel. All they did was give me a pre-cooked Brooklyn answer.

I think they know that when they start with an interrogation that they will be much more interrogated.
It's like blackmail. You leave me alone and I leave you alone.

Until now this is what's been happening, but things can change.

Others have been DF'd for just thinking about questioning an elder.

    So, who knows.

In the letter that the society sent to ALL branches as a guide to use should any inquire......notice what they said here,

"Still, the Criteria for Association of NGOs-at least in their latest version-contain language that we cannot subscribe to. When we realized this, we immediately withdrew our registration. We are grateful that this matter was brought to our attention.
We trust that the above is helpful in counteracting the attempts of opposers to discredit us".

They REALISED it because the apostates are the ones who exposed them.....yet they are so bold as to act as though they realised it on ....their own. They state they are GREATFUL it was brought to their attention, and say it will aid in counteracting opposers.......;.yet the opposers are the ones who brought this to their attention. What lying, worthless, idiots!

Hello Toreador and Scrubmaster - welcome !

My wife and I wrote to the Society (London Bethel) and to the local Body of Elders requesting information regarding the UN involvement, when we first read about it the The Guardian newspaper, approx 2 years ago. They refused to answer even though we showed them documented evidence (letter written to us from the UN etc.) This resulted in our letter of resignation from the Organisation, (we were in for over thirty years) and there subsequent disfellowshipping of us (although we were never told we were disfellowshipped, we are being shunned by the congregation!). We wrote letters and photocopied the evidence and sent it to "so-called friends" but not one of them has responded even though they had all the evidence before them, that took us many months to accrue.

I myself found this UN info quite innocently. After 9-11 they were suggesting on the news etc that you could contact an NGO of your choice if you wished to help in a certain area.

I went to the website, looked at all the names in alpha order and under "W" was Watchtower Bible & Tract Society.

I didn't really know the full impact of what I had found - since I'd not read the Babylon book or other from that era, which really set the stage for the WT's hate for the UN aka League of Nations.

    Toreador/Gumby -

It's actually more than this. The WT didn't have a "sudden realization" of anything. They knew all along what they were doing. They claimed that the rules for NGO status changed in 1996 (I believe) and they were not made aware of the changes. To say this is a half-truth would be generous. Yes, the DPI did change NGO rules after the WT joined in 1991, which can be verified on the UN website. However, the WT claimed that the reason they joined the UN in the first place was because they needed a library card to access information from the UN campus library, (aka: The Dag Hammarskjold Library) which they claimed could not be obtained anywhere else. This is patently untrue for at least two reasons. The first is because there are numerous world-wide UN Depositories and local libraries which can borrow books from the Dag Hammarskjold Library on behalf of a local borrower, who can in turn, check them out. There is at least one of these libraries closer to Bethel than the actual UN campus itself, so it makes no sense for them to fornicate with the Scarlet Beast for a mere library card, when there were other, more convenient ways around it. However, it is the second reason that is much more compelling, in my opinion. And that is that although NGO library rules changed in 1996, the rule regarding the requirement for an NGO to disseminate favorable UN propaganda to it's member base did NOT change in 1996, and were in fact, the same rules which were in place when the WT joined in 1991. This means that the WT knew from Day One that they would be required to spew favorable UN propaganda to it's own members in order to be affiliated with them, although they claim otherwise. Because the WT complied with this requirement in 1998 (I believe) and again in 2000 (I believe) there is verifiable proof that not only did they have full knowledge of this requirement, but also fully complied with it in order to keep their NGO status current! The final nail in the coffin lies in the official WT letter sent to local congregations dated in November 2001 which was to supercede any other letters on the subject - which had contradicted the library card explanation. When you put this all together, it all adds up to one big, fat lie. The truth of the matter is that the WT joined the UN for the same purpose the Catholic Church or any other "false religious entity" has joined - to gain access to influential international lawmakers to further their own cause (aka: opening up new markets). Keep in mind that the WT is the same entity which espouses the virtues of the bravery of not taking the mark of the beast, even if it results in death. However, at the same time, they theselves were frollicking with The Beast without any threat of starvation or death at their own door! This is hypocrisy to the nth degree, and in my personal opinion, one of the most damaging testimonies to the fact that the WT is NOT anyone's visible organization. They are a publishing corporation who exploits it's own members by using them to produce and sell their products without compensation, which only fattens their own wallets. At the same time, they are willing to fornicate with the Wild Beast to open new and profitable markets, when there is no doubt in anyone's mind that they would disfellowship any member who dared to do the same thing. They have only one agenda, and it is not to spread "The Good News". It is to make themselves richer while hiding behind charitable organization tax laws. And they have proven time and again that they will do their best to destroy anyone who questions them or gets in their way.

Thank you for letting me get that off my chest!

Thank you Imallgrowedup and all of you very much for responding! It was exactly what I needed to know. I wasn't sure if they had made an announcement or if it was all on a need to know or want to know basis. I thought maybe the WTS would want to come up with an answer and present it to the cong before the sh*t hit the fan so to speak. But I guess they haven't done so as of yet.

What really amazes me is to WHY they thought they could get away with it in the first place. Dont they think things through? Surely they must have thought that the info would get out sooner or later.

Was the WTS always listed on the UN's website or was that a new thing to post the NGO members?
