disassociated without baptism

I believe there was a topic about disfellowshipping an unbaptized person awhile back but I can't remember enough of the details to find it.

I was speaking with a friend yesterday who was disassociated as a young teenager, complete with a reading to the congregation and shunning, despite the fact that this person was never baptized.

(I tipped my hand a bit by blurting out that they aren't supposed to be able to do that if you aren't baptized. Way to go, smartie! Nice way to play it cool with how much research this non-jw has done, but that's beside the point.)

So I turn to my experts for advice on this... does anybody have any articles from the magazines that explains who is "eligible" for disassociation or disfellowshipping?

also, have you ever heard of a bible study being da'd? While this individual was raised as a witness (from about 7yrs old to 14 yrs old), they were never baptized. How exactly is that different from being a bible study? This person was a young teenager when da'd, mind you. Thoughts?

They wouldn't have used the word disassociated in regard to an unbabtised individual. They could have though called one a disapproved associate. Such a one then was (back then) marked as bad association.

At one time they did treat non baptized publishers and those associating as if they were dfd or da'd. They changed that in the 80s, stopped doing it. It was a very, very foolish thing to do in the first place, don't ya think?

This happened to my brother. He was 14yrs old. Raised as a witness and chose not be one... he was shunned because of the "anyone calling themselves a brother". Up until the new light (I believe the article was in around 1988), if you studied and "came to a knowledge" you could be shunned if you left it. Especially if you went out in service.

Horrible, horrible practice. Growing up I couldn't see the diff between infant baptism and this practice on the JW youths.

This would have been about 1984-1986, I'm not sure exactly which year. This person was definitely told they were "disassociated" and still carries that title around to this day despite having pretty much quit attending meetings at that point.

Does anybody have that article from 1988 by any chance?

They used to do this if you stopped being an "unbaptized publisher" (tm). Then they would have an announcement saying "joe blow is no longer a publisher of the good news" (tm). From there, you would automatically know that you were not to speak to that sonofabitch..

Can't you just feel the love?

Only if they don't smell. Remember, as a Jehovah's Witness, you're shit don't stink.

I'm confused (don't take much). My daughter was raised in the truth, never baptized. She stopped going to meetings when she was 18. If she would have been baptized she defiantly would have been disfellowshipped, she committed a "sin" that was well known among all in the congregation. Basically we have been left alone, not a peep regarding my daughter from the elders. I don't even know if they announced that she was a disapproved associate. When she is meet out in public she is treated very well by the "friends". Is there some unwritten rule that some congregations follow and others don't?
