  Regardless of scriptural implications, creating special categories of service such as colporteur, pioneer, special pioneer, etc. was a brilliant move.

  The prestige, status and few little perks associated with those committing to being full-time workers is miniscule compensation for their sacrifice of time, lifestyle, income and educational opportunities.

  Yes, the hour requirements have dropped on several occasions. How many on the board know that the Regular Pioneer requirement was once 150 hours a month, then 1200 hours a year, than 1000, now 90-vacation/assembly time?

  Vacation Pioneers became Temporary, then auxiliary. Then the special status of a Regular Auxialiary. That would have been a classic oxymoron as a Regular Temporary.

  In the early 70's there was talk of "Pioneering for a Day", bring your lunch and staying out in field service for an entire day. In some congregations there was the unauthorized "Mini-Pioneering" in the early 80's, committing for a week or two of activity.

  Brothers and Sisters, if you will just try it for a year, you will be able to attend Pioneer School, receive a special "Kingdom Proclaimers" textbook for your eyes only.

  In your particular specialized case, pioneering might be a better use of your time than slaughtering the language on this forum. The give-and-take with householders with a different concept of life might knock off some of those rough juvenile edges.

  Plus, the daily exercize would create more blood flow to all your extremities, including the cerebellum.

  Pioneering is often the only way the normally down-troden souls could experience their moment in the sun, and feel important, be it Aux or Reg pioneer. That way you are elevated in the cong, and have just a bit more athority and status. It amazes me that people in 'da troof' can't see what a rat-race the JW lifestile is, always striving for the elders and cong's pleasure and reassurance that you are a good person, and one that people want to be around. A totally social environment, all done for the pleasing of others.

  People don't have to pioneer if they don't want to. They suppose to do it from their hearts. It seems to me that your hearts are wicked.

  I"m still trying to find where in the bible Jesus called himself a pioneer is that word pioneer found in the bible? Now Lewis and Clark, Davey C. seems to fit the title as pioneer. Not when you step out of a KH or car, and say I am pioneering. Just struck my funny bone... now

  Oh, sure, FredPill. Pioneering is voluntary. Of course, if you don't pioneer and you don't have extraordinary circumstances that are holding you back, you are automatically considered weak spiritually, materialistic, coveting worldly pleasures, etc.

  The pressure is on in every aspect of your religious life to pioneer. It is held out as the only honorable goal for every young JW.

  I fell into that trap, and I pioneered after High School until my health fell apart from the stress of trying to complete 100 hours in service while working to support myself and to help my parents financially. Then, I was made to feel like a total failure because I was too sick to continue as a pioneer.

  Voluntary? Not quite.

  It's my understanding that the hours for a regular pioneer are now 75 / month and an auxillary's hours are 50 / month.
