The Hanging Carrot

  Always, since the beginning of the WTS, they have always held a carrot in front of everyone, saying the end is right around the corner. Not 100 years away, but always within a few years.

  Many witnesses need immediate gratification. If you told them that this is indeed the real truth, but the end would not come for another 100 years, the WTS would have very few followers, as they could not appreciate the delayed gratification of knowing they served God The Watchtower and would be welcomed into the new system after they died.

  It is just amusing to think about all these years, starting at the end of the 1800's, they were expecting the end to come then, and when it didn't, then they always changed the date to just a few more years.

  I wonder how long the current set of witnesses will continue to follow along these crazy ideas.

  What is the current date for the end? Have they pretty much done away with this generation of 1914? They must still believe the end is right around the corner, but what is the current carrot?

  I think they point to world turmoil and then say "See, the World Trade Center just fell down. It must be close." This way they don't have to rely on dates any more.

  The current carrot is not a specific date -- but 9/11, any form of fundamentalism -- therefore ban religion, world conditions, AIDS , other infectious diseases making a comeback therefore we are DEEP in the time of the end so Armageddon is just around the corner -- I stick by what I have said in other threads though -- October 2014 will be a very difficult sell -- but somehow -- you watch -- they will find a way oif blaming the rank and file and there will still be a load of the R&F that will swallow it.

  the term now used is SOON, whatever that means, but as I have said on many other threads, once the governing body and annoited class all die off, it will be a hard sell, you would think, oh there will be more "new light" but I think the r&f will start to deteriate.

  It is going to be interesting for sure, and I'm glad I should be around to see it.

  The bait is world conditions right now. That can't last too long though because they've been thriving on that for the past 124 years as well, with a bit of garnish such as "The Generation of 1914" to make it look more pleasing. Now the garnish is gone, and it looks a bit boring. They're going to need something to garnish the carrot. I agree that 2014 should be an interesting year for the WTS.

  Yanno.....come to think of it.....danglin' carrots are used to get an ASS to move it....if the dubs ever find out what the borg REALLY compares 'em to, the Gov. Potty will hafta find something else to dangle in front of 'em...

  Almost all religions use the carrot and stick approach, but remember the stick holding the carrot can be turned into a beating tool. However, the witnesses have more severe stick, disfellowshipping. This along with the carrot being held in front of the ass, thanks Frannie, will only work so long before people start to see thru the nonsense. From what I'm reading on this forum people are realizing more and more what is happening. Bug

  Sure, things are pretty bad , but if the end was right around the corner, the bible points to the end as being an almost unprecendented anarchy. The current conditions don't really justify the claim that the end of the word is near; therefore the doctrine of the JW's shall have to change surrepticiously over the next few decades.
