Since I have begun to post here more often, I thought some of the new ones here, might enjoy reading my story. I wrote this, and it is on one of Randy's boards. It is mainly about my cousin, who asked me to write it for her, but it is also my story. Much has happened in the two years since I wrote it, so I will update later, and let you know more about her cancer, and her sons. You will also find out my real name in the story.

    Mulan,

Sad story, but we can't have regrets about those we 'left behind'--only pray that they will see the light one day before it's too late.

The part about the lady not being willing to treat a df'd victim of breast cancer is so overwhelmingly sad. Here is my own experience, and maybe you can see why it's better she didn't go.

Once when I was living back in NY, we went to Toronto to see this "DR" and I am using the term very loosely on purpose. He is an iridologist, someone who diagnosis and cures by looking at your eyeballs. The theory of iridology does have some merit, it was him I had an issue with. (He is a local cong elder in the Markham, Ontario area)

My mother and father pursuaded me to go with them once (they had been several times previously) because I was having the beginnings of ulnar tunnel syndrome (same as carpel tunnel but in your elbow).

The visit was pleasant enough, I suppose, but towards the end of the visit he leans in real close to me and says, "So you have a little daughter." (At the time she was 3, I had been reinstated before she was born)

I say, very happily and ignorant of what was coming, "Yes, she's out in the waiting room with Mom and Dad!"

This bastard then says, "Next time, wait and do it right, according to Jehovah's direction and you won't have that problem. Now it is going to be hard to find someone to marry!"

His attitude is common of many who are involved in the 'health care field' as JWs. They will pass scriptural judgement on you while trying to 'fix' your problems.

ps-I told him he was out of line, and as a side point, I was only going to be polite to my parents. Also told him I wasn't interested in any of his "Custom Herbal Cures!" (surprise, he sells herbs)

    hey Mulan

I've read your account, along with your cousin, a long time ago. How is your cousin? I seem to remember you posting about her surgery on H20. Please send our "hello" ("hey" in the South) to her.

    hey Lisa

I got my haircut by a jw years ago, wife of an elder. She had just purchased one of those look-into-your-eyeballs gadgets, and wanted to look at mine. Politely I said "no thanks" and tried to get to the door. She followed me telling me how she could see cancer etc.

Yeah, and she dealt with herbs also. A real home-based business: Medical diagnostics, herbs, and hair styling - none of the aformentioned with any schooling.

I never went back - thought she was slightly wacko. I suspect I was right.

Hope your pregnancy is going better. Morning sickness, without the other complications, is bad enough.

Mulan, That may have been one of the first stories I read after my cancer operation. What a cruel thing to say not treating someone who is dfsp. I t brought back tears again, I'm such an emotional fool. Yet I did hit with something along those lines also. A cousin said to me , I told her I was praying my cancer would not spread , well it might help if you were praying to the right God. I prayed that she would never call me again. Well it is one year later and she did'nt. Would like to hear more of your story. nojw

First the update on Sharon: Good news and bad news. Good news is one of her sons has "seen the light" and is out of the Borg, but not df'd. His wife still is in. Sharon also has a new grandson, born in April. They live clear across the country though. Bad news is her cancer is very advanced, and metasticized throughout her body. At this point, the doctor is saying it is under control, but no remission. It is also in her brain, which is very difficult to treat because of the blood brain barrier.

Now, as to alternative medicine, iridology and herbs, I am a true believer in those things, for some illnesses, not all illnesses though. My father is a retired Naturopathic physician, so I grew up with that philosophy, and have seen it work. But, for cancer, and especially this kind that Sharon has, no herb or incantation (joke) will work. If she had caught it earlier, she could have had surgery and radiation and probably been cured, but she let it go way too long, and it got out of control. If I break my leg, take me to a hospital and give me drugs.........keep the White Willow Bark for a minor headache, thank you!!
