    Hello friends,

Not long ago, I read a message here that said that the book "The Truth That Leads to Eternal Life" (originally published in 1968) was revised in 1981.

Can anyone provide some information about the revision? What was left out? What was added? Does the copyright page make mention of the revision date, i.e., does it say,"published 1968, revised 1981"?

    Curious minds want to know.

I remember the 1981 revision, yes it does say 1981 on the inside cover. It was an odd revision because only one year later the Live Forever book superceded the Truth book as the main study publication.

Here's one from the Quotes Site (http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com/minitru.htm) It's priceless!

*** The Truth that Leads to Eternal Life (book) 1968 pg.9 ch.1 Grand Blessings from God Near at Hand! ***

[as published in original 1968 edition]
Also, as reported back in 1960, a former United States Secretary of State, Dean Acheson, declared that our time is "a period of unequaled instability, unequaled violence." And he warned: "I know enough of what is going on to assure you that, in fifteen years from today, this world is going to be too dangerous to live in."

Based on what he knew was then going on in the world, it was his conclusion that soon "this world is going to be too dangerous to live in."

Matty and SS, I think they dropped the references to the "Famine-1975" book too.

Yes, the Society really embarrassed themselves quoting from that book. Can you imagine the writing department getting all of a lather reading through it all when it was originally published? The Watchtower society get so desperate to find secular sources that agree with their bizarre chronology, often they are very lax in checking the credentials of the people involved.

Thanks for those references. Somebody in the Writing Dept. may be looking for me and I hope he finds me.

Hi Nathan: The "Truth" book was revised several times from 1968 to 1981. I believe I have all the editions ... but they are in storage. Most of the changes were minor ... mostly showing a new copyright date, increased total printings that reached over 100 million. They may have made some text changes, but these likely related to 1975 once that date passed. - Jim

    Matty,

I thought they stopped using the Truth book because it was written by Raymond Franz.

Well, that's what I get for using the same ol' one I got in 1968 all those years! It never occurred to me that the subsequent editions were, um, "fine-tuning" things a bit.
