LOCAL NEWS: Rockford Jehovah’s Witnesses drop 2 of 6 sessions

ROCKFORD — Plans to bring in as many as 36,000 Jehovah’s Witnesses to the MetroCentre this summer have been scaled back because of parking and scheduling problems.

The six dates originally requested by the Jehovah’s Witnesses for this summer have been reduced to four.

An estimated 6,000 participants are expected for each of the four scheduled dates: May 23 to 25, June 13 to 15, July 18 to 20 and July 25 to 27.

The religious group had requested two other dates in August and September, but those weren’t available at the MetroCentre because of plans to remodel the center’s seats.

“I know it also had something to do with the fact they couldn’t get all the parking they wanted,” said Corey Pearson, the general manager of Centre Events, which manages the MetroCentre. “So that played into part of it.”

As part of the negotiations to bring the conferences to Rockford, organizers had asked for a waiver of the parking fees at the city-owned parking garage across from the MetroCentre for the Fridays the conferences would take place. The city doesn’t charge for parking on the weekends.

The City Council agreed to waive the parking fees for only two of the Friday-event days.

The conference, which is free and open to everyone, is aimed at helping to keep families together. It will include free informational guides and presentations.

Each three-day conference is projected to attract people from Illinois, Wisconsin and parts of Iowa. The total economic impact of the six events was estimated to reach $3 million.

The conferences will mark the first time since 1999 the Jehovah’s Witnesses have come to Rockford to hold an event.

Do JW's still have to obtain parking tickets for conventions? How DOES the WTBTS get around not claiming this as income? I know they say that jw's donate for the little cards......but are jw's allowed to park if they don't have the little pre-donated cards?

    Thanks expat.

Did you know there's a city or town of "Rockford" in Michigan, Minnesota, Idaho, Iowa, Illinois, and Alabama?

I think this is Rockford, Illinois, but who knows? I certainly don't.

It will be interesting to see if the WTS charges the brothers for parking on city property on the days when the city has provided it for free, just like they did in Tacoma Washington.

Parking tickets are no longer purchased at the KH by JWs. It is part of the "simplification" process. Rockford, Illinois, is the right place.

You mean it's part of the "let's stop scamming the friends for parking fees" process.

Ah, smell the touch of WTS propaganda !

Of course, it *may* be free to the WTS (the parking) but you can bet the dubs will be charged for it (tickets can be purchased in advanced at the local KH ... aren't we so *grateful* for the loving provision provided by the FDS ... aren't we brothers!!)

And keeping families together? Does any religions have as high a divorce rate as the WTS? Going through my old cong/ in my head, I reckon almost half were broken marriages. How many families have they broken up? Too many to count ...

Hah...my wife goes to the DC's at the "Werner VonBraun"Center in Huntsville, AL. The parking there is terrible. Every time I went with my wife, I would park in the same bank parking lot and pay for parking so I wouldn't have to walk so damn far. The lot was run by one of the local boyscout troops. Hey, I never had to fight for a spot.

: The total economic impact of the six events was estimated to reach $3 million.

They forgot that dubs don't tip service people. Ever. Therefore, the revised figure is $1 million. They forget that the Watchtower Corporation books blocks of room in advance for a great reduction in price and then "offers" then to dumb dubs at the rack rate while they reap the difference.

Therefore, the revised figure is $500K.

They forgot that at every District Assembly there are more NEW BOOKS to sell to fools who attend those assemblies and buy those stupid books. All that money that could have floated around in the local economy if dubs would actually spend any money in that local economy goes to the Watchtower Book-Selling Corporation.

Therefore, the revised figure is $200K.

Dubs are whiners. They complain about everything from food in restaurants to hotel services to cab fares. They are GREAT whiners! Since they hate everyone else, whining is not a problem for them. Due do their whining, the money that goes to the local economy is further reduced because the vendors, would rather give them a discount or a break than listen to their whining.

Therefore, the revised figure is $100K.

Dubs steal stuff from hotels. I know this. I've seen them do it. Some of them think it is their right to steal from the "Egyptians." This costs the hotels they stay in money.

Therefore, the revised figure in $50K.

So, the city expects $3,000,000 from the conventions. They get around $50,000 instead.

The Watchtower Corporation is the one that makes the money and they laugh at the cities and their poor members while THEY make all the money and screw the cities where they hold their assemblies and screw their own membership with their books which will become worthless in only a few years.

    This is all Bible-Based.

Notice how the article leaves out the critical fact that the Dubs will be forced to PAY for this free parking the City is giving away. And guess where the money's going? "The Worldwide Preaching Work", AKA "Ted Jaracz' Overseas Investments"...

Anyone know if congos still 'sell' parking tickets to JWs in advance of the conventions?
