Post the books you think should be required reading for anyone leaving the JWs:

    Mine are,

Apocalypse Delayed by Jim Penton -- a historical overview of the JWs and their doctrine

Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz -- the insider's account of how the Watchtower is ruled

In Search of Christian Freedom by Ray Franz

Index of Watchtower Error by David Reed -- helpful quick topical guide to numerous quotes on ever changing WT doctrine

Man's Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl -- A great book by a concentration camp survivor and psychiatrist whose philosophy on life is a great one to adopt if you lost yours in the WT.

The Myth of Certainty by Daniel Taylor -- If you still believe in God and have a love/hate relationship with churches and others that profess belief in Christianity, this is great one to read.

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill -- The mindset and psychology of people who have been enormously successful. I found this helpful since I didn't aspire to be anything but a janitor and a magazine salesman when I got out of high school.

    MegaDude,

Just curious....have you read all of these books? Which one would you recommend as a first read?

    Lost,

I've read those above and a LOT more.

Hard to say which one I would recommend first. I guess it would depend on your interest or need.

I would also suggest, The True Believer, by Eric Hoffer.

On a humorous note, if you ever run across a copy of The Boomer Bible by Laird it is a must read. It's the funniest book I have ever read in my life!!

I would add to the list Diane Wilson's Awakening of a Jehovah's Witness, Escape from the Watchtower Society.

    Angus,

Yes, I read that book too. I could easily relate to her feelings of "should I stay, or should I go". The author finally realized that she had to be true to herself.

Combatting Cult Mind Control by Steven Hassan is a very good book too. It lists ways of identifying Cults....so many (if not all) matched the JW's.
