The prophet Isaiah explains explains at Isaiah 63:17-19 that just having God's Name upon one's self, DOES NOT save all the time...such as when being overrun by the Babylonians and captivity under them. He states:
"Why do you, O Jehovah, keep making us wander from your ways? Why do you make our heart hard against the fear of you? Come back for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your hereditary possession. For a little while your holy people had possession. Our own adversaries have stamped down your sanctuary. We have for a long time become as those over whom you did not rule, as those UPON WHOM YOUR NAME HAD NOT BEEN CALLED." -- Isaiah 63:17-19
Yes, Israel was treated as though, they DID NOT HAVE GOD'S UPON THEM...and what did this mean?
They would not have any protection at all. They are now, just another nation, another nation that DID NOT carry God's Name upon themselves. They did not have any protection, now.
Proverbs 18:10 says:
"The Name of Jehovah is a strong tower. Into it the righteous runs and is GIVEN PROTECTON."
Here we again, find a clear connection, between God's Righteous People, the nation that represents Him, and His Great Name...an eternal principle that must true for us today too.
The two will never, ever be separated either. God's People, the righteous and God's Glorious Name. The two stay together.
Jesus said it this way, about his disciples and sticking closely to God's Name:
"Also, I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world and I am coming to you. Holy Father, watch over them ON ACCOUNT OF YOUR OWN NAME WHICH YOU HAVE GIVEN ME, in order that they may be one just as we are. When I was with them I used to watch over them ON ACCOUNT OF YOUR OWN NAME WHICH YOU HAVE GIVEN ME; and I have kept them..." -- John 17:11, 12
The Bible, God's Prophetic Word, always lets us know that Jehovah God, will defend His Name, no matter what the "consequences" to Israel. No matter the reproach that has to come upon Israel.
Ezekiel 36:22, 23 says:
"Therefore say to the house of Israel, This is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said: Not for your sakes am I doing it, O house of Israel, but FOR MY HOLY NAME, which you have profaned among the nations where you have come in. And I shall certainly sanctify my great name, which was being profaned among the nations, which you profaned in the midst of them; and the nations will have to know that I am Jehovah," is the utterance of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah, when I am sanctified among you before their eyes."
No, Jehovah is not saving "Israel," for their good conduct...as the WTS would have us believe these scriptures are saying...no.
No, but Jehovah is saving Israel, for His Own Name Sake...for His Own Names Sake...that all.
Yes, it is only, His Great Name only, that God is determined to defend, to sanctify. Jehovah's Own Great Name, and that's it.
So, God must discipline "Israel," the people who are carrying His Name, the people who are "profaning," His Great Name, like the WTS does today. Again, because they are wearing His Great Name before the public. And that's the only reason. -- Ezekiel 36:20; Romans 2:24; Revelation 13:5
Ironically, this is the key verse the Watchtower Society uses to show in the book, "The Nations Shall Know That I am Jehovah" -- How?" that the political nations of the earth will come to "know Jehovah" when he destroys them for attacking His people, Israel.
However, it is clear, the WTS has not checked the context, when choosing this text.
The above text shows that ALL the nations will come to know Jehovah God, when he Jehovah himself, CEASES to Discipline Israel anymore...with much shame, humiliation and "loathing of self" to set in for their many sins and "errors." Clearly, Israel has "profaned" God's Great Name among the nations, and for this, must be disciplined.
Ezekiel 36:29-32 shows this by saying,
"And I will save you from all your impurities and call to the grain and make it abound, and I shall put upon you no famine. And you will be bound to remember your BAD WAYS and your dealings that were not good, and you will be bound to feel a loathing at your own person on account of your errors and on account of your detestable things. Not for your sakes am I doing this, is true utterance of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah, let it be known to you. Be ashamed and feel humiliation, because of your ways, O House O Israel."

Jehovah is saving Israel, for His Own Name Sake...for only, His Great Name only...because they are wearing it before the public. And that's the only reason. Yes, they blasphemed God by their wicked conduct, as the people said of them...
"... these are the people of Jehovah,"
...yes, they were called the "people of Jehovah," and that's where the reproach began. Yes, the "Name of God was being blasphemed on the account of these people [Israel] among the nations." -- See Ezekiel 36:20; Romans 2:24
So, on the basis of these particular circumstances, Israel of old, and also Modern-day "Israel" of today, Jehovah's Witnesses, the God of Israel must act. Yes, God is duty bound, to defend, to protect, to Santify His Own Glorious Name, even if the people who carry it, do not do this, with their conduct.
So on this basis, Jehovah God, will remove all reproach from His Glorious Name, even if it means, by the method of chastising and disciplining His Own Name People so that all the nations will come to "Know Jehovah." -- Ezekiel 36:23; Isaiah 30:26; Micah 4:6,7; Hebrews 8:11
