Don't they need the Holy Spirit?

You may always have believed that the preaching work was directed by Jesus, who in his parting words to his disciples said:

"All authority has been given me in heaven and on the earth. Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things." (Matthew 28: 18-20)

You may also remember that Jesus said:

" But the helper, the holy spirit, which the Father will send in my name, that one will teach you all things and bring back to your minds all the things I told you." (John 14:26)

Strange, then, to read this statement in the April 2001 Kingdom Ministry (back page):

"Our love is the force behind the worldwide preaching work."

On so many occasions, even subtly, the Writing Department are obscuring the role of Jesus in the congregations. The Holy Spirit does not get a look-in except as with "the spirit-directed organsiation".

congratulations ozzie, you've just found a MAJOR FLAW in the WTS' class system.

Now, what will be interesting to see is how the society will go about getting the R&F to accept that they need no mediator.

Kind of makes the memorial pointless, doesn't it?

    G'day ianao,

You've got it! The Memorial is pointless. The April Kingdom Ministry states (on page 1) that it is "A Special Occasion to Show Honour". We find the emblems so honourable that we spend 45 minutes culminating in passing the bread and wine amongst us and just look at it! What's the point?

Jesus said: "Keep doing this in remembrance of me." What was the "this" ? It was the sharing in a communion meal, not the passing of bread and wine which is rejected by all (or almost all).

Surprisingly the KM states that this is a "rich, spiritual atmosphere"! (Insert article para. 1)

    Prisca m'dear,

You flying from the Virgin Islands?

Make sure you have enough (sunscreen) oil.

Remember the wise and foolish virgins.

    Cheers,

It's gotten to the point where they don't even have to say it. The R&F will make up their own reasons as to how this 'new light' is so benficial at this time and how it's a definite proof that we are close to the end.
We had some friends over yesterday and one of them made a remark about how the new arrangement of the GB no longer being involved with directly running the corporations was certainly pointing to the nearness of the end. "They are trying to wean us away from them for the coming new order."
I replied matter-of-factly: "They're just trying to avoid lawsuits." She smiled and nodded as if I were in complete agreement.

Excellent way to save money too.Think of the saving in food and wine and hiring public halls. All that money can now be lovingly donated to the worldwide work (tm)

This was a point I ALWAYS questioned. The bible - even their NWT included the Holy Spirit, yet the organization can do away with it as they see fit.

" But the helper, the holy spirit, which the Father will send in my name, that one will teach you all things and bring back to your minds all the things I told you." (John 14:26)

This tells me that the Spirit will direct the education of the faithful, not a worldly organization who vote doctrine in and out of their faith when it pleases them.

And I always thought the memorial was pointless - we aren't invited to rejoice with Christ? We're not welcome at his table? How can that be?

This topic brings to mind a question I've had. I've been trying to read watchtowers on the subject but the way the writers word things, I'm still stumped. If any of you are recently (like in the past say, 3 years)inactive, maybe you can answer it for me. Are JWs still under that mosiac law except for the 144,000? Some of what I've been reading in the WT words it so that they are still under the mosiac law and only got a "little" benefit from Jesus' ransom, and are taught that the new covenent isn't for them (i.e Jesus didn't give his life for them.) I'm more confused than I ever was now. I wish the writers would just say things in plain english and quit with the damn word games. I can't imagine tiny kids having to sit for an hour at meetings and study and supposed to be learning something. I'll be damned if I can understand it.

And I don't believe that the WBTS baptizes their members in Holy Spirit any longer. So I've been told. They don't need any baptized disciples. They need more baptized publishers.

    scratching my head again,
    somebody
