The two witnesses and Susannah

In the second century a mural was drawn from the Susannah story on the walls of the Roman catacombs - all the early texts included the story of Susannah. The reformationists/protestants took it out of their bible - I assume the anti-catholic wtbts have also. Catholics have kept the story in the Bible, it's a part of Daniel.

It's a story of the 'two witnesses' - elders. Susannah's second witness of course was God.

"The book tells the story of how Daniel saved Susannah from a false charge of adultery, prompted by her rejection of the advances of two elders. Daniel's interrogation of the elders proved that they were not telling the true story."

Check it out in a real Bible - good teaching story.

Has no one even read it?
The wtbts kept it from everyone?

    An extract:

< The assembly believed them, because they were elders of the people and judges; and they condemned her to death. Then Susanna cried out with a loud voice, and said, "O eternal God, who dost discern what is secret, who art aware of all things before they come to be, thou knowest that these men have borne false witness against me. And now I am to die! Yet I have done none of the things that they have wickedly invented against me!" The Lord heard her cry. ....

Taking his stand in the midst of them, he [Daniel] said, "Are you such fools, you sons of Israel? Have you condemned a daughter of Israel without examination and without learning the facts? ....

...and commanded them to bring the other. And he said to him, "You offspring of Canaan and not of Judah, beauty has deceived you and lust has perverted your heart. This is how you both have been dealing with the daughters of Israel, and they were intimate with you through fear; but a daughter of Judah would not endure your wickedness.....

And Daniel said to him, "Very well! You also have lied against your own head, for the angel of God is waiting with his sword to saw you in two, that he may destroy you both."

    Good story.

Having been in the borg for nearly twenty years, and a methodist prior to that, from childhood, I cannot remember ever seeing any reference or hearing any mention of Susannah. So that covers an awful lot of "closed mind" Bible Study, and even in Methodist Sunday School when little, the "Daniel in the lions den" story was repeated time and time again, but no mention of Susannah.

It is a powerful story though. No wonder religious hierarchy "lost" it!!

    Thanks for the enlightenment.

    Hello Bang,

So, please give the source of the story of Susannah. Is it from an apochrophyl (sp?) book of the Bible? I know you're amazed that no one has heard of it, but please let us know where it is. Thanks.

Susanna and the Judgement of Daniel is in Daniel Chapter 13. Protestant bibles, including the New World Translation finish at chapter 12. I can scan it in from the Jerusalem Bible if you wish.

    Hi Matty

You say its in the Jerusalem bible.
The society used to quote from that translation, I dont know if they still do.
Wonder why they missed this account?

I agree with what spero says though. I too had a 'church upbringing' in the C of E and Methodist prior to about 20 years in dubdom, and have never heard of the account.
They are all guilty of sinning by ommision.
