Well, now I know why there are so many numbers I do not recognize on caller ID.

I just pulled this off of Just JW's, apparently the JW's are using the telephone for return visits!! Read below. I have edited out the MSN filler on the post.

This I find works nicely to leave on answering machines for the not at homes found, in telephone witnessing. Does anyone have others that work for them.

Hello, my name is__________. You don't know me, I'm doing a volunteer work in the area. I'm calling to encourage bible reading. If you would be interested in hearing a bible based public talk, your welcome to do so this Sunday @________ at the kingdom hall of Jehovah Witnesses on_____________. No collections are ever taken and as an obsever, there will be no obligation on your part.
Have a nice day and goodbye.

HAHAHAHA!!! I wish I had had it so easy when I was going out in service!!

What the hell, anything to count time, right?! haha

Seriously, I remember when the whole idea came out in the Kingdom Ministry. Everyone talked about what a 'greeeaaaaaat' idea it was. I'm in somewhat tight with the local JW congregation, and I don't know ONE JW who opts to do this.

I mean, if you wanna waste time, why not stand on a street corner and be politely ignored? Why actively piss people off and trouble them with uninvited telephone calls?

I personally know JWs who have sworn off this lame tactic, because they feel that it automatically alienates a householder and makes them automatically unreceptive to the 'Kingdom Message' (they're right). Maybe this telephone witnessing takes off in some areas more than others. It would be interesting to study the differences in such areas to try to determine what make it fly or fail in the local JW community.

That is almost as effective as standing at someones door on Saturday morning in the middle of winter while they're still their pajamas and the bacon, eggs, and pancakes are getting cold on the breakfast table uttering some dribble about the Watchtower and Awake. (No, thats not a run-on sentance.)

I can remember when telephone witnessing was being bandied about some years back, everyone oooohed and ahhhhed when brought up in the service meeting. I however thought on my god not again so other stupied way to send a msg. What got my goat the brother giving the pep talk hated receiving unwanted calls especially those relatingto business, sales etc. whatg the hell did he think making calls about religion would do. When asked sometime later, he admitted he had never did, wasn't about to do it, and wouldn't encourage any in his book study group to do it. No wonder people don't like telemarketers, and then the society wanted to encourage telemarketing religion. They can never get it can they.

I have never done it myself, but my mom did when she became to ill to go out in service. You see this is a way they can insure that those that are to ill or infirm don't "slack off" in their service time!! lol also helps them reach the people in gated communities that they can't get at any other way...

Hey they are nothing if not persistent and inventive.....

I wouldn't put it past the WBTS to get an auto-dialer for every circuit and start telemarketing in earnest....

I mean, they could really feed off the fear of terrorism the elderly and lonely have right now, eh?
