What the Dub religion *really* taught me...

    ... in spite of itself.

It’s okay to say, “I don’t know.” It’s foolish to think that any person or group has ALL the answers to ALL the questions.

There’s nothing wrong in changing (or discarding altogether) a long-held opinion. Just because I’ve had a certain viewpoint for years doesn’t mean that it’s right.

People who hold “high” positions aren’t always worthy of respect and shouldn’t always be given it. Unless they’re wearing a gun.

There’s nothing the least bit wrong with ‘independent thinking.’ It’s just thinking.

My opinion is as good as anyone else’s. So is yours.

Sometimes I’m wrong and when it happens, there is honor in saying, “I’m sorry. I was wrong.”

Real love – the unconditional kind – is rare but oh-so-good when you find it.

It makes perfect sense to have a retirement plan. Start one as soon as you start your first job and then keep an eye on it for the next fifty years. You’re going to need it.

There are a lot more good people than bad people and you have to get to know each of them one at a time before telling which from which. Knowing their race, religion, the size of their bank account, etc. doesn’t help in the determination.

Loyalty to a true friend or someone I deeply respect doesn’t mean that I can’t disagree with them and think they are wrong. Sometimes, for the sake of your conscience, you have to oppose even friends.

Sometimes people I don't care for are absolutely right.

It’s stupid to call people names just because they don’t see things my way.

Nothing bad happens to you when you tell someone, “Happy birthday” or “Merry Christmas.” It seems to matter to them, though, because they usually smile and wish you the same.

Birthday cake tastes as good as regular cake.

Blood is way thicker than any religion.

    Howdy tj,

Seems that anything positive can be viewed negatively, eh?

To add to your growing list of things learned:

    1. There are good & bad individuals in "the world" and in the congregation. See people as people.

    2. People think in black/white within/without the congregation. It's all over the place!

    3. Invest in your IRA as soon as possible.....then forget about it (unless religiously investing in it) until you retire. Liked your point on that one.

The sum total of what I've learned about life can be summed up in three words. "It goes on." Walt Whitman (I think)

Pretty good 'Post' teejay! You might add, you can be a Christian and still mow your lawn on Saturday.

outcast, I'd rather have a 'bottle in front of me', than a 'frontal lobotomy'! Is it by chance that you registered as a member of this 'Board' on April Fools day?

Good points TJ. Yes, taking a positive approach we can turn a lemon into some lemonaid.
