Regarding scriptural quotes in a post.....

This is in regards to a post by 'anewperson'. At first I found it very interesting and was amazed at the wealth of information that is in refute to the way JW's believe. But then I looked up the scriptures quoted and found that some of them, most, do not support the sentence in which they are mentioned in. First example,

Christ said families would be divided by some members
doing good & others doing wrongs but never ever advocated destruction of families. 1
Cor 6:1 only says judge "trivial" things as in business, James 2:4-13 calls judging harmful,
& Paul says the "majority" (2 Cor 2:6), followed his advice to shun a wrongdoer, meaning
a minority chose not to & yet he nowhere condemns them. So we ask why the formal
Judicial Committes destroying families via numerous formal renderings of disfellowshipment
    (shunning)?
1 Cor. 6:1,2- "Does anyone of you that has a case against the other dare to go to court before unrighteous men, and not before the holy ones? Or do you not know that the holy ones will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you unfit to try very trivial matters?"

If you read further you will see this scripture is pertaining to legal matters between brothers and lawsuits. It is not talking about judging a person on acts of sins, such as disfellowshipping offenses. There is a difference.

Acts 15:20 says abstain from blood but 1 Sam 14:32-5 says Saul's army ate
unBLED meat to not starve & no verses show God not forgiving them plus Christ (Mat 7)
says God also forgave David's eating temple holy bread & that God wants Mercy Not
    Sacrifice.
1 Sam 14:32-35- "So they told Saul saying, 'Look! The people are sinning against God by eating along with the blood.' At this he said, 'YOU HAVE DEALT TREACHEROUSLY. First of all, roll a great stone to me.' "

This scripture goes on to say how he built an altar and properly fixed the meal. He did not partake in the bloody meal or did he approve of it. How does this scripture show that eating blood is okay? If anything it just makes the anti-blood case....

The May 22, 1994 Awake tells of 26 JW kids who died without transfusions, &
by common sense in massive bleeding as in car wrecks blood expanders won't save lives
(ajwrb.org). An estimated 3 JWs die daily earthwide from the WTS’s unscriptural policy
(Blood On The Altar)! Why should our kids, grandkids etc be endangered?
JW's stand by the use of Acts 15:20 to 'abstain from blood'.

Christ was likely born about Oct 2, so why ignore he was conceived 9 months before
meaning late Dec? Why insist Christmas is from the pagan Saturnalia when John 10:22-3
says Christ also celebrated the Festival of Dedication or Lights, i.e. Hannukah, which first
began Dec 25 but has varied since because lunar-based?
Jesus celebrated the Festival of Lights, but you have to remember, this was a holiday supported by God for Christians. Christmas has pagan origins and probably wouldnt have been celebrated back then either, for the same reasons that JW's dont now.

    Don't Job 1:3, 3:1 and 3:3 (you
must read all 3 verses) show Job's kids celebrated birthdays?
Now I really am confused why you used this scripture.
Job 3:1- "It was after this that Job opened his mouth and began to call down evil upon his day. Job now answered and said: "Let the day perish on which I came to be born, also the night that someone said, 'an ablebodied man has been conceived."

So... it is clear here that he was DAMNING his birthday.. his daughters were not celebrating it!!!!????!!!????

    Didn't angels celebrate
    Christ's birth?
A JW would say surely there was cause for celebration but the day of Christmas is steeped in false religion and pagan practices that have nothing to do with Christ's birth.

Santa is from Nicholas, a Christian, not a wizard or pagan god.
St. Nicholas is a saint. JW's dont believe in saints or the background of Chris Kringle.

Why call compromises holidays that attacked & replaced paganisms?
    Huh?

    Doesn’t Colossians 12:16
says let none judge you about a holiday.
Colassians 2:16 (There was no chapter 12)-"Let no man judge you in eating or drinking......or of an observance of the new moon or the sabbath.."

This scripture also shows to be talking of celebrations that were celebrated by Christians at the time and were no longer covered by the Old Law. Yet no one was to be judged if they still partook of them.

There are many more things I could go into, but its late and I have to get up early for work...so these are just a few things I wanted to take issue with.

I do not attend meetings and am not a JW. But I strive for accuracy and fairness. To twist scriptures to fit your agenda is no better than what you claim Witnesses do.

I do not wish to see people misguided in any way shape or form, JW or not.

    tera,

I didn't want your post to go without a reply, especially because I did appreciate the point you were making. Twisting scriptures to oppose the wtbts is no better than twisting them in favor of them. I also appreciated you taking the time to check those scriptures. Being a homeschooling mom and a childcare provider leaves me little to no time to do research.

    Thanx

I took a quick look at some of your scriptures (not all). While I think it good that you are checking them out, your comprehension seems low. anewperson may not have explained why he used those scriptures, but understanding his point, and reading those scriptures, it is odd that you can come to such WT like conclusions, or at least could not see his points.

The blood scripture; pretty obvious that it is was treated rather lightly by God, and these men where not even trying to sustain life (you remember life don't you? that sacred thing?). They were merely very hungry and impatient. All God needed to forgive them was the smell of burning cow. Hardly the same as being cut off from your family and community wouldn't you agree?

Job for instance; his "cursing his day" while certainly not advocating birthday celebration, is in NO (zero, nada, zilch) way a condemnation, or for that matter, even a mention of b-day celebrations. The other scriptures about Job's children may in fact well be mentions of b-day celebrations. Some bible translators certainly thought so, and it certainly is what those scripture sound like.

    Shimmer,

Thank you. I didnt expect to get alot of replies. I just want to read TRUTH in posts, not twisted fables. I appreciate the kind word from you.

    Music,

It appears you are the one with low comprehension. Unlike you, I do not read a scripture and then make my own story up in my mind about what it could really be saying. I understand it the way I read it. If you think a 'higher' comprehension involves making up stories to pacify your own conscience, so be it.
But I hold no respect for people that have no knowledge of scriptures they quote and quote them out of context.
Yes, I understand what 'anewperson' was trying to get us to believe... but unfortunately, you better have scriptures that REALLY back your claim, because there are people in the world, like me, that will look it up to verify it.

Are you telling us that you really don't see how the account in 1 Samuel is a powerful argument against the WT policy on blood transfusion?

Are you telling us that you don't see from the scriptures in Job how a reader could get the idea that Job's kids celebrated their birthdays?

Are you really trying to make a connection between someone "cursing the day they were born", with a condemnation of birthday celebrations? If you are trying to make that point, I really have heard EVERYTHING now, lol.

How about your use of 1 Cor 6:1,2? Here, you actually agreed with anewperson, at least the portion of anewpersons words that you quoted in your post! Yet you framed your statement as if you disagreed. Do you comprehend his point, or not?

anewperson gave evidence for a "festival of lights" origin of christmas, or at least for the time of year of christmas celebration. You insist that christmas origins are pagan. Why should I accept your statement over anewpersons? You didn't even attempt to give evidence for your statement.

:for the same reasons that JW's dont now.

We can be sure that's not true can't we tera? After all, early christians didn't even have a governing body legislating their every custom, did they?

:JW's dont believe in saints or the background of Chris Kringle.

And why should the rest of humanity prostrate themselves to what "JW's dont believe"?

Colassians 2:16 (There was no chapter 12)-"Let no man judge you in eating or drinking......or of an observance of the new moon or the sabbath.."

This scripture also shows to be talking of celebrations that were celebrated by Christians at the time and were no longer covered by the Old Law. Yet no one was to be judged if they still partook of them.

Oh my God! Did you really leave out the "...." part? Did you really do that just to win an argument? So f***ing dishonest it isn't even funny.

Folks, the "...." part tera left out in Colossians 2:16 says "or in respect of a festival".

When you leave that in, you have no basis to say what you said, do you tera? OH! So slimey!! The scripture indicates NOT to worry about other peoples celebrations!

Btw, when did those celebrations become christian?

I just want to read TRUTH in posts,
    It would seem not.
