Lets see what is the difference between a bethalite and a publisher?
When working in Bethal you are considered to be a pioneer.
That means in Bethal you can do carpentry , cleaning , cooking , painting ,washing clothes , ironing sorting out bills and accounts and many other jobs and be considered a pioneer and spiritualy strong.
You can even miss meetings do no ministry in the week and still be spiritualy strong.
If extra work is needed to be done you can miss meetings to do it and still be considered a pioneer and spiritually strong.

If you are a publisher and spend all week doing house work , decorating your house sorting bills out a miss a meeting or don't go on the ministry you are spiritually weak.
The elders will be concerned at your lack of spiritual goals and you may become an iregular publisher or even inactive.
Of course the publisher has the advantage of having to do all his/her menial tasks after working full time to pay the bills.

I wish I could be spiritually strong like those bethalites.

Of course as a publisher if i had a house kept as well as Bethal employing all those extra workers to do so I would be considered materialistic, but the governing body can do that and still be considered spritualy strong.
Of course there are no class distinctions with Jehovahs witnesses all are equal just some more than others.

I always thought it was "odd" the way pioneers could count their time while volunteering at assemblies, but normal publishers could not. More often than not the pioneers worked for themselves and "scheduled" their work around the assemblies while Joe and Jane Publisher sacrificed vacation time or had to haggle with their employers so they could take time off for assemblies. I remember how the crowds would applaud when they heard that someone stood up for their faith by walking away from a job just so they could attend the assembly. It was that important!!

Gawd it makes me nauseated to think of the stupidity and hypocrisy in that organization!!

Thanks for that post, sleepy. I did not know about the way time was counted for Bethelites. So if one is cleaning house and engaging in normal daily activities for the sake of the GB, they are "pioneers," but if one does the same activity on behalf of one's children and family, it could be an indication of "spiritual weakness!"

I visited the UK Bethel about 4 years ago.

I was amazed that they all have to wash and change for lunch, then go back to the job in the afternoon. That isn't too much hassle if you work in the office, but how about if you work in the workshops? That is a complete, major overhaul to rid yourself of oil, grease, petrol and diesel, change, eat lunch, and then start all over again!!

What a fine waste of time THAT is!!

Why can't they take half an hour out - and eat a sandwich in the workshop.

Or like me, eat a sandwich at my desk while I CARRY ON WORKING!!

No wonder they have problems once they leave Bethel. They are back to being children again - only ever having to do one thing. All the meals, cooking, cleaning, laundry is done by someone else.

    Hi Nowfree, et al,

Been there, done that; believe me, one of the greatest unspoken perks of being a Bethelite is the opportunity to miss meetings and pass on field service WITHOUT guilt and WITH impunity.

By invoking ``Bethel work, which takes priority'' at your local KH, you can hang back, unload your meeting parts on the local elders with little or even no advance notice, and not even the Circuit Overseer can touch you.

"pioneers could count their time while volunteering at assemblies, but normal publishers could not. "

    I didn't know this.

Pioneers are indeed the special ones aren't they?
