Part 5. The Street Party.

Sadly, their own demise as family members was now only weeks away, and those other young sisters next door on the other side were looking a bit restless too............

Within the next few weeks, Becky was noticeable by her absence. Our house no linger shook to her Madonna singles and the whole family at Dub-house 1 seemed to become subdued. As for Dub-house 2 on the other side of us, the place could have been empty for all we knew. It was as if each family was holding its breath waiting for something to happen. I knew that Craig was still around, the smell of cannabis would waft into our house from his bedroom window, but I saw virtually nothing of anyone for a very long time.

Another summer came and went, and then it was the time for the Street Party. I think it was to celebrate the birth of Prince Harry. For some unfathomable reason, whenever there is a Royal birth or wedding in the UK, the residents put up trestle tables and chairs in the middle of the road then settle down to gorge themselves silly on junk food and copious quantities of alcoholic punch and beer. It’s a bugger if you are trying to drive anywhere.

As we were carrying out the food, who should appear but Craig, who was also accompanied by the youngest sister of the 3. He had a huge grin on his face. “Guess what?” he said, “I’m getting disfellowshipped. Can I join the celebrating?”

Well Craig did indeed celebrate extremely well, but I was curious that the younger sister was allowed to be present for a birthday celebration. They are both featured in this pic, Craig is wearing the shades:

Craig later told me that his parents were devastated by the departure of first Becky and later him, so they were now easing up on their 2 remaining offspring in the hope that they would remain in the fold.

Their “easing up” soon became evident to me when John, Craigs Dad, approached me and started a conversation about his golf swing. I just responded pleasantly as though we had known each other for years. Actually, we had been living next door to each other for close on 3 years now, and here we were, behaving at last like adults. From that point on, there was no further tension between us. Amazing how the loss of a loved one can bring you back to reality.

Meanwhile, on the other side, a stirring was afoot. A young female voice could be frequently heard through the partition wall, plaintively objecting that she was never allowed to do ANYTHING………….

    End of part 5.

In part 6 I decide to move on, and I entrust John with a secret. The final chapter.

    Ok Englishman

Here is what happened to the girl next door.

As I said in my earlier post, these two sisters used to play with my two children.
They were both good looking but Jackie grew up to be most attractive.
She arranged to meet another JW sister at a pub, but this sister did not turn up. Jackie was left all alone. But not for long, innevitably some guy came to her, and made himself a friend. They started to go out together.
Her mom and dad, obviously did not approve of this and without doubt applyied a lot of pressure upon her.Jackie eventually left home, went to live with this guy
    Soon she was dissfellowshiped.
    And eventually had two children.
On one occasion I spoke to Ken, Jackie's dad at the kingdom hall, asking how Jackie was doing. He looked suprised, as if this was not something brothers should ask about the dissfellowshiped.
He nodded his head and just said OK. I guess he did not really know the answer to my question. They had cut her off from association.
I would often see Jackie's mom on the ministry, she spent most of her time doing it, she would plod along mostly with her head looking towards the ground. She was not happy, how could she be? she had cut off her natural tender affection from her child.
I believe Jackie eventually moved to wales.
Her sister faye took after her mom and Pioneered most of her young life away. The last I heard she also got married to an elder's son.
they went to live, by Ironbridge( the first bridge made of Iron in the world).

    Wow, Radar.

I knew that a problem was developing with one of the daughters. It's almost inevitable, kids have to break away from something.

I first realised that things had got worse when I got a phone call from my kid brother who still lives nearby. He said that the Shropshire Star newspaper had published an article in which the daughter had suddenly disappeared, and that the police were looking for her.

Cheers BTW for filling in the background. Do you recognise the pic?

You have just triggered another memory.

you said "and that the police were looking for her."
    This is correct!

Jackie's parents placed restrictions on her after the pub episode. She was forbidden to see her new friend.

One day she decided to run off

Jackie's parents were so desperate at their daughter not coming home that day, they called the police! When they could not locate her amongst her JW friends, they feared the worst and told the police as much. The police then raised "Helicopters" to search for her. This is how it all came to be in the Shropshire star newspaper.

Sorry I don't recognise the youngsters in the photo. I guess they were in Aquaduct congregation, so we would not know of them much.
