I'm just finishing up Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets right now. One chapter left. I'll easily finish that before bed. So, help me choose what book I read next. I'd love to do the next Harry Potter book, but I can't afford it at the moment. Here are the books I do have:

    • Cider House Rules by John Irving
    • A Widow for One Year by John Irving
    • The Fourth Hand by John Irving
    • Cell by Stephen King
    • Lisey's Story by Stephen King
    • The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon
    • The Onion Girl by Charles de Lint
    • The Known World by Edward P. Jones

    Suggestions anyone?

Wow, I have a book-room, really, with hundreds of books ... and yet save for Harry Potter I have none from your list

I'd go with widow for a year, cuz the title intriges me.

I recommend Geek Love by Katherine Dunn.

The novel is the story of a traveling circus run by Aloysius "Al" Binewski and his wife, "Crystal" Lil. When Al's circus begins to fail, the couple devise an idea to breed their own freak show, using various drugs and radioactive material to alter the genes of their children. Who emerges are Arturo ("Arty"), a boy with flippers for hands and feet; Electra ("Elly") and Iphigenia ("Iphy") the Siamese Twins; Olympia ("Oly") the hunchback albino dwarf; and Fortunato ("Chick"), the normal looking telekinetic baby of the family — as well as a number of still-borns kept preserved in jars in a special wing of the freak show. The story is told by Oly in the form of a novel written for her daughter Miranda.

I don't want to do any spoilers and end up ruining it for anyone, but were you blown away by who opened the Chamber too? OMG! That knocked me on my butt. I thought I had the whole thing figured out and I was wrong on EVERY point.... Great read. She's an AMAZING author.

Well, I can't tell you what to read, but I sure can recommend a book I am currently half way through: Apocalypse Delayed: The History of Jehovah's Witnesses By: James Penton Toronto Press Even though I'm only half way through it, I'm impressed. I should have bought and read this book 8 years ago. Very well researched, thought out, and honest, all from an educated professor and former PO from Canada. Best of luck on your next read! Wing Commander

So far I have one vote each for A Widow for One Year and Cider House Rules, both by John Irving. Any more feedback? I want to start whichever one I start before going to bed tonight.
