Richie's side, Seth's side... and a third side

I got a pm from Richie. Shockingly, he has a side to the story! :-)

So I have a legitimate sounding story from Richie, who I know to be a young, rebellious man. And who I also know to be a wise young man.

And I also have a legitimate sounding story from Seth, who I don't know at all, but who has been verified in several ways.

So what is the truth? IS there a truth to be had?

I'm going to speak for Richie now, which is always a dangerous thing. If I misspeak Richie, jump in here and correct me, please.

Richie is torn -- he doesn't feel he owes anyone an apology. We think we caught him out, and he thinks we've been misled. In the end, I don't know how any of us can say for sure one way or the other. I surely can't.

I would like for Richie to return. If he returns without an apology, without an explanation, without a defense, that's fine by me. Just show up and post like nothing happened at all. Those that accept that, accept it. Those that don't, don't. Sort of exactly like every other human interaction we'll ever have.

Richie asked me not to post his pm verbatim, but this one line is the summation of it:

"No matter what I say, people aren't going to believe me."

And he's right. I can't know, and I can't believe. I can't believe Seth, or Richie, or any amalgam of the two we might melt together. And in the end, I don't care.

Richie's a guy. Just this guy, ya know? He seems pretty sharp, has a good bit of good info to share. If I don't know the whole story of his existence, or whether or not he has told me the truth on all occasions, I can still appreciate him for what he's been all along -- just this guy, ya know?

So, if he comes back, and he doesn't explain anything, and he doesn't apologize, and if pressed he doesn't reply or refuses to "admit" anything, I JUST DON'T CARE. I want him back.

Which brings me to that "third side". That would be the side of this story that doesn't care that it happened, considers it a non-event, and moves on.

That's my side, and I'm stickin' to it.

I'm here for my friend, and friends, just as I hope to always be.

I said it once and I'll say it again, he's welcome at my fire any day, ever, no matter what the story is now, or later.

I hope I am allowed the same if/when I need it.

I'm for the considering it a non event and moving forward...I think he shouldn't feel afraid to come here and just talk about it...

I mean he's always been just a cool guy. I'd be very curious to hear his side of the story (although I thought he posted one?) and hear what he has to say in rebuttal...

"No matter what I say, people aren't going to believe me."

Oh, I don't know ... I think some people will believe anything!

I dunno how hard it is to prove you work somewhere that you claim to as I've never had to do it. Then again, I've never claimed to work somewhere I haven't. It never seems that hard to prove that you are not lying but once you start deceiving people you can quicky spin a web that gets out of control.

What have either side got to gain from lying?

    • I can see what Richie gains if he lied ... some kudos and respect that may otherwise not have been due.
    • I can't see what Seth would have to gain from lying though as it appears his only motivation is to 'set the record straight because of the impact on his business'.

Oh, and that makes it different to a 'non event' ... he's affected someone else and for me that means that if he has lied he should at least have the decency to apologise for it.

Just buggering off will I think in most peoples minds equal "I've been rumbled".

Or maybe you don't want to perpetuate the lie. Why not grow some balls and face the issue at hand.

    Amen!

Exactly! Ritchie doesn't owe anyone here an apology or an explanation. It is none of any of our business where he works or what he does, unless he decides to fill us in. If he gives us info and someone comes along later and says it is false, well, we can believe what we like and whom we like, but we have no right to be demanding "the truth" or apologies and he has no obligation to give them This is not a court of law folks. It is a discussion forum. People discuss what they want. We take it for what we think it's worth.

I have 3x been the victim of a kangaroo court, once as a 9 year old at school ( whole class except one friend), and once as a 12 year old at home (parents) and once as an 18 year old when I got df'd (elders). In the first two cases, I admit, all the evidence pointed towards me being guilty. Except I wasn't. In both cases, I had been framed by another jealous girl, who both purposely did something wrong and then stacked up the evidence to make it look like I had done it. I'll tell you though, I remember those incidents like they were yesterday. It is the loneliest feeling in the world to have everyone you know with their minds made up against you without even hearing what you have to say. You find out who your friends are, that's for sure. OK, the third time (with the elders) I was "guilty" , it just never occured to me until after the first elder's meeting that what I did was not really a "crime" in my country so why the hell was my sex life any of their f*****g business?

I hope Ritchie does come back and tell his side of the story, if he wants to, and only once, He's right, though. If he tells his side there will be plenty who still don't believe him. It's a tough lesson to learn in life, but there will ALWAYS be some people who question your motives and don't believe you even when you are telling the truth. I also hope he comes back and doesn't tell his side of the story and ignores demands from others that he do so. Oh, and if he did do it, then like I said on my other post, "He's 18. He needed a job. He embellished his resume a little. Big fricking deal!"

I hope Ritchie keeps posting to and keeps us updated on what's going on with him. I for one will take him at face value based on what he says about himself and not what others say about him. I'm sure lots of others will too.

Telling stories of their workplace is the least of these guys' problems. After all, they both have a forked tongue.
